We were founded in 1986 by five friends in the hardware industry who saw the need for a locally-owned neighborhood hardware store. What started out as a 3000-square-foot hardware "mini-mart" has grown into a 12,000-square-foot specialty hardware powerhouse. We are fortunate to have extremely supportive neighbors who have watched us grow over the years, and that support is appreciated.

Services
We have the largest selection of Stainless Steel fasteners in the area, featuring both SAE and Metric sizes, in almost all configurations currently available. We use multiple sources to ensure the greatest range of sizes, thread pitches, and head styles. In addition to the "standard fare", our Stainless Department boasts an irresponsibly excessive selection of the oddball, unusual, and hard to find parts that has made us famous in Seattle. Give us a call to see if you can stump us, especially on the weird stuff.
The Plumbing Supply Department specializes in plumbing repair parts and fittings. This is the place to look for brass fittings, including pipe, compression, flare, and hose thread. There is also a compact but complete Stainless Steel pipe fittings area. If it floats, flushes, or flows, we probably have the parts to build or fix it! Why don't you clean up your house? We can provide all of the cleaning supplies and tools you need, from mops and brooms to cleansers and waxes.
We live in a neighborhood of gardeners. We also have some of the finest nursery supply retailers around, so rather than stocking flowers and plants, our focus is on providing what you need to keep your lawn and garden happy and healthy. We carry a wide selection of fertilizers and we also stock a great selection of tools for the gardener.
The Painting Supply Department focuses on the tools, equipment and paint goomerachis needed to get your project done right. Featuring a larger selection of brushes, rollers, and painting tools than most "paint stores" around. Having the knowledge and expertise to help you, whether you are a novice or professional.

You'll find anything you need there and more from oddball fasteners to fire-starters. From paint to potting soil. They truly have it all. Their employees are knowledgeable and can point you in the right direction. Their prices are great too! You may pay slightly more for some things than the large box store but remember that you're supporting your local hardware store! If we lose Stoneway you'll driving to home depot or lowes and spend an hour walking all over the store trying to find an employee.

Awesome selection, super helpful staff, they were quite busy but made sure to open a register if a line formed. I appreciated the paint guy helping me find a tile drill bit. My one-star ding is that this store seems more expensive (by a couple of dollars on everything) than Lowe's/Home depot) but worth it for the convenience of it being here in Ballard. I'll be back.

The reason for the 4 stars is that even though I was impressed by the fact that they had everything I wanted and I was easily able to get help (unlike the nearby Fred Meyer which has had a terrible problem with shoplifting by the homeless camped nearby as well as pandemic-related supply issues), the prices were a lot higher than I'd have liked.

Friendly neighborhood hardware store with helpful staff and an expansive selection. It can be a little overwhelming to locate what you're looking for, but thankfully the staff is knowledgable and can maneuver the store for you. Their prices are fair too. I recommend coming here if you have any house projects or hardware needs.

Replacing my 5 star review with a 3 star review. I've had good times and bad times here. I've come here a lot in the last year and a half. The staff can be moody and treat customers like they are an inconvience. My boyfriend consistently gets rude service here, three times he has come back with a story of how the staff was rude. This place has quickly become a last resort. Here's some advice, if you can't be nice learn to hold your commentary towards your customer. Treat each other with kindness as well as your customers.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you have a flash flood of customers but I was simply trying to call to find out if they had a product in stock so I don't waste a trip over there. It took 6 calls to get an answer, first call was picked up then put on hold then hung up on second call was answered then set on the counter (could hear voices) then was hung up because they probably hoped I hung up. -this is the absolute worst practice anyone could do especially with out greeting or saying anything. third call was picked up then hung up on fourth call was picked up and hung up on fifth call was never answered the 6th call was picked up after the 4th ring and the kid who answered was very clearly annoyed by the volume of customers in-store and on the phone and did even want to talk to me.
He answered my question with the intent to suggest that I shouldn't even come down to give them my business. What the actual fuck? This is the worst handling of increased customer volume I have ever experienced and I will happily and with extra effort make sure no one goes to this store to be treated the way I was treated.

This place totally grows on you. At first it seems like a bit over priced, but then, when you start a project that specific bolt, some paint to finish a project, some bark to put the touches on your garden, and don't want to make the run to the big box store, or if you are looking for something that is a bit different, then you start loving this place more and more.
The staff are, for the most part, knowledgable and friendly. They are real people, so as you go more often, you get to know them as such, and can see how this place is like hardware stores of old. I for one am grateful there is a local hardware store a few blocks away.

I've been going to Stone Way Hardware for 7 years, and the experience has always been excellent. However, yesterday they went above and beyond in their exceptional service. I had bought a lamp from the 50's that needed a socket, instead of pointing me at the sockets they suggested bringing the lamp into the store so they could assess it and see exactly what I need. Justin, the employee who worked with me, spent 10 minutes of his time making sure I had just the right parts to get the lamp working.
His expertise was invaluable and probably saved me many hours of youtube searching and multiple hardware store trips. Thank you Stone Way Hardware for all your help over the years, you have made a life long customer out of me :

The Babbo of Hardware. Stoneway has a big selection, convenient location and most of the guys are nice (one is a super grouch, but mostly avoidable). They play a very interesting selection of often low volume heavy metal and other rock in the back ground. though once in a while in the back it's so loud, you think they may be trying to signal the store is closing shortly, and yet it's not.
There is one guy reportedly who plays it loud. Overall very helpful, they copy keys, and have a lot of options for screws, nuts, bolts, set screws, etc. metric and american. PS. Babbo is Mario Batelli's restaurant in NYC. very expensive and gorgeous food. but he plays heavy metal there. not too loud. but still. Unexpected.

Stoneway Hardware has a surprisingly huge selection for their relatively small location. I've been looking for workgloves at those big huge home improvement stores, but they only offered 1-2 pairs to choose from. At Stoneway Hardware they have maybe 15-20 kinds of gloves in different colors, grips, and material. No matter what you're looking for, my guess is that you'll be surprised at the variety of options you'll find here.
