We needed a handrail for our front stone steps. Ballard Ironworks came out, measured, promptly sent us a drawing and estimate for the cost. We thought it looked great so we gave them the go ahead. They installed in on time, did a fantastic job. It looks great and is clearly well-constructed and installed. Perfect experience all around!

We enjoyed working with Ballard iron works. They are honest and fair. The railing built were beautiful and high quality. They were great to work with being prompt and providing clear communication. In our contract, we had missed a railing as a handrail and didn't discover this until the day they started the work. When they arrived to put in the railings, we discussed our disconnect and they were collaborative on formulating a solution.

I work out of my home and many clients come by. I had no railing leading up my four steps to my front door. I've been concerned about my liability if someone was injured, and wanted a sturdy railing that would also enhance the appearance of my home. I searched for the right company for about a year before deciding to use Ballard Ornamental Ironworks. David Farage provided exceptional customer service, and ultimately a beautiful railing with a simple, elegant design.

We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of different designs that I was considering. He made it easy to identify the right one. I mentioned to him that I was concerned about the installation. Another company that I got a bid from told me that I would need to sign a waiver in case the post cracked the concrete step. David checked the area where the post would go in and assured me that it would not affect the step in any way.

He was right. (Really glad I didn't use the other company.) Soon after it was installed, the paint was accidentally damaged when a delivery was made. David recommended a specific brand of enamel that would match the color and finish. I spent a few minutes touching up the damaged area with the enamel paint, and it matched perfectly. The installation was done two years ago and the railing is exactly what I was hoping for.

It looks brand new, and I am certain it will last the lifetime of my home. I highly recommend this company. They made everything about this project easy and the quality of their workmanship is outstanding.

Love these guys. Super charming and customer focused. We had a small job, an additional handrail to make our front steps a little safer- not a whole lot of money but they could not have been more responsive. Did a beautiful job, actually had the rail ready to install a little early, install crew did a great job and were pleasant and cheerful. So the entire process from estimate to installation was on schedule and estimate and the new rail is a perfect match for the existing upper rail. Use these guys/ highly recommended.

The Farage Brothers really know their stuff. I've had the best experience with them. Highly recommended. None better.

Excellent product and service! We are very happy with the railing and how we were treated throughout the process. We had a very specific design for an outdoor railing; we asked for an in-person consultation, and they were on time, very personable, took careful notes and treated us with respect. The final railing is exactly the look and placement that we asked for!

Our experience was just as it should be, and I wish I had found them sooner in our process. We attempted to do business with other companies who either could not make time for us, or who scheduled onsite consultations but never showed up. Out of frustration, we looked further and found Ballard Ornamental Ironworks, and are very satisfied.

Don't call them unless you only want a specific iron railing. They won't help you with any of the other pieces that go into a construction project. Guy sounded very grumpy :

Wow, I also went into the shop in Ballard and met the two Farage brothers and then Douglas came to my house and did the drawing and measuring onsite. Within three weeks I had two beautiful new handrails on my treacherous outside steps AND the pride was super fair. I had gotten estimates from several big shops and Ballard Ironworks beat them and the quality, honesty, reliablity and ease of dealing with them made me wish they sold more things! GREAT.

The polite owner showed up to provide an estimate on replacing my iron porch railing, and, as he put it, "talked himself out of a job." He noted that the railing was exceptionally strong and of good quality, and recommended someone who could paint it. I learned a great deal from his visit, and he didn't charge a thing. An honest man!

We just had railings installed along our garden's precarious stone steps. The ironmongers who produced these pieces are some of the folks of Ballard Ornamental Ironworks: two brothers, their progeny, and others who are skilled artists and craftspeople. With a discussion, drawings and a site visit, Douglas Farage, one of the owners, helped us to choose a railing design that would fit nicely into our rambling garden landscape: simple matte black iron with curls at both ends. Douglas' easy-going demeanor, fair businesslike attitude and varied portfolio of really fine metalwork projects were all reasons we decided to go with his company for this project.

The three men who installed the railings (one of whom also forged the railings) were very industrious and personable and left their work site tidy. The railings were bowed on site to follow the curve of the steps and look really lovely winding past the shrubs. I will wait to add the 5th star when I report later (after we have had time to walk up and down the steps for some time) on the durability of the railings.

I walked in to Ballard Ornamental with a tiny, scratcy sketch of a railing I wanted for my house. I handed it to David Farage, one of the owners He said, "I'll see what I can do", and a week later sent me a beautiful rendering! He knew what I wanted better than I did! The shop did an excellent job creating and installing the railing. It sits not only as a support, but also as a piece of art in my house.
