Osprey Technologies We are a design and analysis engineering firm specializing in composite structures. Our services include assistance with the design process, expert finite element analysis (FEA), guidance for cost-effective manufacturing approaches and processes, and fabrication of prototypes and low production runs. We utilize Solidworks software for our design work and perform finite element analysis using ANSYS and NX Nastran. Composite engineering combines the use of carbon, glass, and Kevlar fibers with a wide variety of thermoset and thermoplastic matrix materials to produce stronger and lighter structural and/or functional properties not present in any individual component.
Services
With three decades of experience performing composite structural engineering analysis, design, and fabrication, our customers are confident in our expert capabilities and a thorough understanding of their requirements. Osprey Technologies was created when we saw a customer need for specialized non-linear composite structural analysis.
Companies new to composites generally fail to understand how closely related design is to the manufacturing process. Design of a simple composite tube can have significantly different structural properties, costs, and visual appearance depending on whether it is roll wrapped, filament wound, or makes use of a braid over a mandrel. Dave Crockett (president of Osprey), and associate Tim Wright (A&P Mechanic and Instructor), have collaborated to develop a Composite Manufacturing and Repair Technology Program to meet the growing need for trained composite fabrication and repair technicians. This new program can be tailored to meet the requirements for aviation schools' Part 147, or towards a 2-year associate degree in composite repair and fabrication. With the increasing use of composites in all sectors of industry, there is a rapidly growing demand for trained technicians.
Several years ago, Osprey Technologies developed the first and only ALL-composite powered paragliding (PPG) backpack unit. While other companies are slowly integrating more composites into their designs, Osprey continues to lead with new innovations. Osprey's first powered paragliding design, the Evolution (EV1), was designed for a 115-cm propeller.
