This is the only lumber yard in Dallas that stocks 'Homasote' fiberboard which is the ideal heat resistant, pin-able flat surface for stained glass work (and ideal for pinboards, of course!) It's also cheaper (per sq ft) at Craddock's than anywhere I found online. The first thing I did was talk to a pleasant guy behind the counter in the front office about what I needed.
He explained they sell it in full 4ft x 8ft sheets but that they can cut it if necessary, so we chatted about what sizes to go for. After paying I took the receipt with the cutting details and drove around the corner of the main building to the huge, tall racks that fill their lumber yard. I gave the receipt to a friendly worker who greeted me back there and he immediately took a full sheet of Homasote on a forklift to the cutting area.
He and another gentleman verified the sizes needed with me before starting the cutting process, and changing my mind about a couple of the cuts didn't phase either of them. It was 'service with a smile', and they adjusted the cutting measurements and loaded the cut pieces into the truck for me. All in all an excellent experience and well worth the 40 mile trip each way, even through the traffic hell of a Central Dallas afternoon. If Craddock Lumber wasn't so far from us I'd go there for ordinary wood, etc, as well.

I've used these guys for various projects, most recently for old-fashioned wood siding to match what is on my 1952 house. The people are friendly, and don't give you any hassle. I have my own woodworking business now (just getting started) and will be visiting this week to get my hands on some nice 8/4 cedar and 8/4 pine. and maybe some cherry and walnut, if they have it :)

I have gotten stellar service from Craddock. I needed to have a large quantity of old-fashioned siding delivered to my 1922 house in East Dallas. They helped me complete the transaction conveniently via email. The salesman, Vance, did his best to coordinate the delivery time with me. And the delivery man, David, was an absolute SWEETHEART. He helped me get the lumber to a secure place on my property so it wouldn't get stolen, even though it was brutally hot outside and he had been tasked to just leave the lumber on the driveway. That is the kind of service you don't forget. I will recommend Craddock to everyone I can.

Great little old school lumberyard. Everyone is always so friendly when I go in, even though I am just getting a small order. Go and support this place! They have high quality wood and moldings. I looked at the big box stores and could not find the correct size I needed for my 1950s house (plus all the moldings looked warped). This place had just what I needed.
