I submitted my supply list via email, got a quick (and very reasonable) quote, and had delivery (not expensive!) within a couple of days. If you're on the west side of Madison, you may not typically think to call out to Cross Plains, but you should! Definitely give Saeman a call if you need some lumber.

Great company that supplies anything Home Depot has but at better quality and better knowledgable service. I never knew the same "model" at Home Depot as any true lumber or hardware store is not apple's to apple's. The "models" made for Home Depot include plastic parts and cheaper fittings versus the same "models" from hardware stores and lumber companies that will include metal parts and higher quality fittings. Ask for Ben for specifics on windows, doors, siding etc. Ask for Mike for lumber. Great people, family generation owned and operated company

Saeman lumber is always helpful. Even if they don't carry the product they try to help me figure out how to get it. Sometimes they give me names of contractors when I'm unable to source one on my own. The down side is sometimes I have to be very patient- especially if I go in person rather than on the phone. They have a small crew and seem to be quite busy.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in the local lumber yard to grab a piece of wood to finish part of my deck repair. By default, I always went to the big store in town. I mean, who is going to compete with that volume and those prices? Saeman Lumber will - at least for the cedar board I had to buy! The guys were really friendly - just what you would expect from a small town business.
Being a smaller yard, they didn't have the odd-dimension lumber I wanted (1x3), but they were happy to rip down a 1x4 for me for no extra charge. The board was reasonably price - maybe even less than that other big store. I wish I would have come here sooner to save me some longer trips! These guys will be my first stop for lumber needs from now on.
Note - it's not the best layout for customers. You don't really know where to park - I'd suggest find a spot by the front door and walk on in. They'll help you from there!
