D&D Materials is a business that is owned and operated by a local Tucson family. Serving the community from the same location for over 50 years, we are conveniently located on the east side of Tucson. Through the years, we have grown right along with Tucson and the surrounding areas. We now have a second yard right around the corner in Rita Ranch.
Our product line, the services we offer, and our business hours have expanded to better benefit our customers. By using granite aggregates, natural crushed stones or river rocks, Tucson's lawns have been taking on a new look, commonly called 'xeroscaping' or 'rockscaping'.

A: The material being crushed produces fines. Anything smaller than the desired size material can be considered fines. For the most part, fines can be considered powder. As stated to us by our suppliers, sized crushed material (screened) can consist of 5% to 30% fines and minus materials or decomposed granites can consist of 50% to 80% fines.
This location is 13 minutes away from the 22nd street yard. We are on S. Old Vail Rd (between Kolb Rd. and Houghton Rd.) approximately 1-1/2 blocks south of Valencia Rd. Turn right into our yard at the traffic light at Pantano Rd. (3-way intersection) 1 traffic light west of Pantano Rd/Pantano Parkway Rd. & 22nd St. intersection.

About 75% of my order is dirt! I ordered 4 tons of river rock, what I actually got was about 3 tons of DIRT with some rocks mixed in and about 1 ton of nice river rock on top of the pile they dropped off. I called to complain and they told me "You get what you get when you order river rock" So now I have about 3 tons of dirt and some other kind of rock to get rid of and I need to go get more river rock In order to complete my yard the way that I wanted to.

I'm a landscaper who's been keeping Vail beautiful since 2010. I recommended this company to one of my clients. We went there today and he bought 9 tons of gravel for his yard. My client asked the lady behind the counter if they could dump it in his backyard from the alley. She said that unvaccinated people are making covid spread as she looked into my eyes.
But she is vaccinated and still got covid. She said we don't deliver in alley's rudely. Then she gave my client a flying for a guy who has a machine that does all the work. Thanks a lot ladyyou screwed me out of the job. I will never recommend this company again

I'd say their prices are about average for the area and they have a decent selection of materials. The staff inside the office was rude and nobody was wearing masks when they had a sign up and were requiring customers to wear masks. There's still a county ordinance. I'll take my business into Tucson in the future.

Very happy with the initial customer service and the driver but it went downhill. Took my measurements in for a hole I had to fill (very odd shape). Sales guy did his math and said 1 ton of fill dirt would be more than enough. He seemed not 100% (younger kid) sure so he took me out to a tractor and told me 1 ton is about 3/4 of the bucket. I was thinking more like 2 tons but was afraid to be stuck with a whole ton of dirt at my house. Asked the guy again if 1 ton would be close to what I need or more than enough (first time ordering dirt and figured they are the experts).
He told me more than enough. Should have listened to my instincts. Ordered two other orders of rock and the delivery fee changed from $70 to $40 a load for the 2nd and 3rd (loads scheduled for different days). Got the dirt and realized it only filled in 1/2 of the hole. Called and was told I would have to pay the $70 delivery fee again. Figured at worst they would charge $40 for delivery and was willing to accept that. Was told no and it would be $70 for delivery again because it is a new order. Just going to pick up the 1 ton I need and be done with this place. Reading these reviews, I'm not expecting much but "too bad" from the owner.

I'ved used D & D a couple times, usually good service/products. Most recent time I called and made an order over the phone and was told one delivery day, but scheduled for another. I also drove over to check I was matching the older rock to the new correctly and the salesman confirmed. On delivery day rock doesn't match. I'll be able to make do but I'm less than thrilled this round. Overall would recommend.

I wanted to add some landscaping gravel to my yard and was hoping to match the existing rock that was probably installed back in the 70's. I took in a sample of my rocks and found the 2 people in the front office to be very helpful. They could tell that their current materials didn't work for my situation but didn't give up there. They spent time trying to help me by looking through old sample containers to see what might work.
They even suggested a couple other suppliersto contact because they obtained materials from different areas and may have something that might be a closer match. We didn't find a solution but I appreciated their efforts and knowledge. Since that first positive interaction, I have ordered tons and tons of river rock and Catalina rip rap also with positive ordering and delivery experiences! I would definitely recommend them to others and plan to order again for future material needs.

Called today to get an estimate and was met with the rudest customer service I have ever encountered. From the minute he picked up the phone, Daniel spoke to me as if he could care less to gain my business and when I dished back his snarky replies, I was told to take my business else where and hung up on. No problem and we absolutely will. To the owners, it's a shame you have this person representing your business and what's more "managing " it.
