Since 1947, John's Lumber has been a staple on Gratiot Ave. in Clinton Township. Founded by Roy Aggeler, John's Lumber grew from humble beginnings selling product out of Roy and Virginia's home. Shortly after, the building where John's Lumber still stands was built in the Aggeler's backyard, and was expanded over the years to begin selling lumber, trim, windows, doors, decking, hardware, and much more.

I was slated to finally get my new front door after almost a year. I made it here at 7:15 Wednesday during what was said to be a blizzard. (It was not) anyways, although they didn't have the exact thing I needed, they figured out how to get what I needed. Nick, thank you. To your warehouse guy that went back and found stuff to make it work- thank you.
I was stressed walking in. Probably visibly by the look on my face. They were super great at helping me and I wouldn't hesitate to come back in here for literally any of my needs. Super friendly, great group of guys, and girls. Btw my door wasn't installed Bc the installer was too scared to bring his box truck out.

I've been coming in a number of times. Every time it seems the service gets worse and worse. Today when I went in I was carrying a wood sample with me. Before I finished walking through the front door one of the reps tells me 'oh we don't have anything like that.' Needless to say I left and found another lumber company to help me.

I was trying to finish up my Trex deck project yesterday when I realized I needed one more floor board. I knew John's Lumber sold Trex so I called the Shelby store. "Mark" took my call and quickly checked on stock at their store. He said I had to go to their main store at 15 and Gratiot and they only had 20' lengths (I only needed 5'). But, then, he said they might have had some in the "returns" at their store in Shelby that don't show in the inventory.
He had to physically check and said he would call me back in 5 minutes. He DID! And they DID have a 12' board and he had already pulled it an put it in Will-Call for me! I thanked him and hung up. I turned to my girlfriend and said, "Am I on another planet? Who gives customer service like THAT these days?" I drove to the store to get it and I took my battery circular saw to cut it in 2 pieces to fit in the car better. The sales guy said that they would do that for me, no problem. I can't imagine going ANYWHERE else for materials now. What a great place. Friendly, helpful people.

Not even sure what to rate this. Ordered 3 storm doors and 3 entry doors. We were told 8 weeks. I emailed for an ETA update since we were told once the order was placed we'd get a more accurate ETA. If i hadn't sent an email I would have never known the doors were pushed back A MONTH! Salesperson tried to say that's what we were told. NOT! Called him out then the blame was passed on. NO YOU'RE THE SALES PERSON THAT TOLD US WRONG, TOOK OUR MONEY AND NEVER FOLLOWED UP TO LET US KNOW WE'D BE WAITING ANOTHER MONTH!
That pushed my contractors back now I'm pushed back with them to get the doors installed and siding done! We planned on doing the deck, took samples etc from here but ummmmm NO! I will go somewhere else for my deck! Also sent an email to management about the experience/delay/lack of communication and again NOTHING!

I'm a 72 year old veteran and I Bought 25 womanized 2x6x16' boards, nine years ago for my decking in 2012, and boy are they heavy. Decking is 2 ft. Off the ground, and starting rotting out in 8 years. The deck was waterproofed stained, every year. You must have gotten a bad batch, was their only response Period. I guess no responsibility on their behalf. Went there this year to further complain, on the remaining rotting out boards, , I was told, they would come out and look at it, ,,h mm, That was in May, , this is July2021 of course a no show, , Better off buying from Home Depot, ,y ou may get the same bad service but, there's will probably last longer.

I wish I would've gotten the names of the 2 young men that helped me. I was greeted right away when I arrived, and asked if if I needed any help. After explaining what I needed, the first young man escorted us to the lumber area to help us find scrap sizes for my project. The second young man cut the pieces to my request. Both were very helpful, polite, and courteous. What a pleasure! This is my go to place!

I tried to get cabinet doors replaced, but received nothing more than lip service. I had a discussion with their "cabinet expert, " who was helpful in the moment. She told me she would call me back in two days. It's been two weeks now, and not a word. I've left 5 messages for her and her department and not a single call back. I can't speak for the rest of John's Lumber operations or employees, but I can say their "cabinet expert's" incompetence has lost them at least one customer. It's not worth your time or the frustration.

They are always friendly and helpful on the phone. I've used them twice to get specialty items you can't get at the big box stores. What's more, they are willing to do curbside pick up even for small orders. I have lumber yards that are closer to my house but I don't even bother calling them anymore because they just sound annoyed with homeowners/DIYers who are not spending a lot of money. John's will continue to get my business.

Brian was incredibly helpful when assisting with my wood project. He took the time to hear about what I was trying to do, show me the stock, provide me a quote and give me some tips to reduce cost. The shop allowed me to go down into the hardwood section and pick my own lumber. I really like their customer service and selection.

We bought 47 2x4x7 today. We made the mistake of not checking them first. They were so warped, that we couldn't use alot of them. We even asked them to not give us all warped wood. We had to go somewhere else to get more wood, to finish our project. We wouldn't recommend them to anyone, but if you do go there, check that it is not warped. Also, alot of them had huge chunks of wood missing on them. I will say that the customer service was pretty good.

Do NOT TRUST this place. I ordered a lumber package from John's which I agreed to a set price within the same day John changed the price. I asked to talk to the manager who said the price had gone up and if I want the lumber I would have to pay the high price. Having a deadline for the labor and other trades I did not have the option of starting a hunt for a new supplier. This lumber was in stock not a new shipment.
