After 109 years in business, we have learned a thing or two along the way. First is to treat your customers with the utmost respect and always provide to them a quality product at a fair price. Build relationships along the way so some day we can enjoy meeting the future generations of families as they come in and know we are here to help with their home improvement needs. Second is to treat staff like they are family. We wouldn't be where we are today without the commitment and loyalty of our staff.
SPF is your basic construction stock and we stock them in wide variety of sizes. We also have precut studs for 8 and 9 foot ceilings. Most wood is SPF, which refers to the type of wood species used; Spruce Pine and Fir. Certain sizes are also available in Southern Yellow Pine, a somewhat heavier and harder pine species.
Chelsea Lumber stocks multiple grades, species and thicknesses of plywood, OSB and other panel materials for all uses from roofing to cabinets. Below is a sampling of our most popular items, we stock much more than this at our lumber yards in Chelsea, Saline or Bridgewater. Please call with questions and inquiries on how we can help get you what you are looking for.

This is specifically for Bryon Birch at the Chelsea location---he came to measure windows for an estimate for replacement windows. He was so honest that he said to contact my original window replacement company to do the replacement as they were under warranty (though my current windows are poor quality). He said that it is his job to provide information, not to push a sale, and that having repeat customers is what is important, quality over quantity.
It is rare to find someone of integrity like this! My only complaint is that they could not replace my windows due to the building height, or else I would have gone with them, no question.

In a world where everything is so impersonal I am pleased to say that Chelsea lumber still has the direct personal service from a staff of people that know their products and what they have in stock. What they don't have they gladly and quickly order but if they know who has it they let you know where to find it. I guess they don't worry about losing a small amount of business because customer service seems to be their goal.
They are a well stocked lumber yard and building supply house, not a big box store. I can get in and out of the store with everything I need for a project quicker than searching in the typical self serve store like menards or lowes. Their yard hands load for you, nice touch!

Had Chelsea Lumber do a large project on my house about 2 years ago. Windows, deck, gutters and siding. All the windows frames on the inside are cracked, and the caulking job was not professional. The large deck they installed has now bowed. The siding in numerous places still falls off the house. They started with a Amish crew which was highly recommended by their staff. Cigarettes all over the yard along with candy wrappers I still find every day.
They had another crew come out and complete the job. Horrible company just making a dollar off of big projects. Paid them a lot of money and took advantage of my age. I'm young so fell into them telling me they would do it right. Two owners and the guy that sold me on stuff came out and I asked them "would you put this on your house" there response was you get what you pay. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE COMPANY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. They had to side contract a couple guys to come finish the work

Great! After looking for a week for a couple of things I needed around the barn, I was across the street from Chelsea Lumber, so I decided to try there. Not only did the counter salesman lead me outside to make sure which product I wanted, and then suggesting what may work better for a sliding door latch that I had chosen also. Very friendly and helpful too!

Great experience with Chelsea Lumber. A store that does business like the past in a big box world. Knowledgeable, friendly service. My wife and I spent 40 minutes with a member talking about composite decking options. Helped us make a decision on what we wanted. When we made the purchase we were about to leave when a sales person said the materials cost was less than what they charged us and gave us $450 back.
Most stores would have kept the money. They realized they made an ordering mistake and made it right by giving a discount on the items we needed to purchase. You would not be treated like this in a big box hardware store. Try it you'll love the service and attention you will get from these great folks.

Apparently, when you buy NEW exterior doors, they don't reinstall your storm dorms. I find that to be total BS especially when we BOUGHT the storm doors and had THEM install it just a few years ago! I told them when getting the quote about reinstalling the storm doors that THEY put them in a few years ago and there response was: "We can replace the doors and install new storm doors but we would not be re-installing your existing storm doors." **My mom had an exterior door installed and the company that did her door took out her old storm door and reinstalled it.
Her storm door was 10+ years old. So, don't tell me you can't do it! UPDATE: 3/1/19- Had Sun Home Improvement come out today and give me a quote and his exact words were" do you want to keep the storm doors". I said yes! I told him what Chelsea lumber said and he said that was WRONG! I will NEVER come here or order anything from them ever again! They just want you to buy more product when you don't need it!

They sold me every stick of wood in my house 13 years ago, and since then I have used them many times for deliveries of dimensional lumber and fancy hardwood-faced plywood. I have always had excellent service, and very good quality product. I asked them one time why they can't sell me any 2x4s that have that interesting corkscrew twist to them like I can get sometimes at Lowe's. I guess you need a special kiln to do that.

I'm not clear on why the name changed, but Bridgewater Lumber in Saline is still part of Chelsea Lumber Company. Bridgewater Lumber is like a scaled-down version of Lowe's or Home Depot, and one of their locations is right here in downtown Saline. You'll get a lot more attention than you would at the big box stores, and they still have all the essential stuff.
True to their name, they're heavy on the lumber side of things, but they also have kitchen and bath fixtures. doors and windows and siding. etc. to improve your home, which is the main point, I guess. Over the years I have had duplicate keys made, paint color matching, and they even arranged for the work crew that came and built our barn for us.
If you need a barn or other major home remodel, they have a design department that will sit down with you to develop your idea into actual drawings and material lists, and help you find a contractor. We were very satisfied with the work crew that built our barn for us at this house, and our last. Yes, we have had two barns built with help from these guys, and they even have a class to teach you how to assemble your own pole barn with a materials kit that they make up for you and deliver to your site. But since it's a lot of work, and it takes a lot of hands to raise those trusses, it might be best to let the experts handle it.
