The demand for architectural concrete finishes and overlays has never been higher than it is today. More homeowners, builders, architects and property managers are learning the tremendous benefits our products and systems have to offer over other construction products and applications. For over 30 years Color Stone, Inc. has been Chicagoland's best contractor for specialty concrete construction products for architectural concrete. There are even some recent articles about our services in the Chicago Suburban News and the Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers.
Services
When you're in the early stages of planning a new construction project, it can be difficult to know how to decide who to hire for the job. Whether you ask neighbors, friends, or family or you go to Home Advisor in search of answers, one thing that holds true across the board is that a contractor's work should speak for itself.
The versatility of our products and systems can often times be a bit overwhelming, if not confusing. Listed below are the more popular systems that our products create. This application is one of the most popular uses of our polymer cement products. Until now, to obtain the look and feel of stone, slate and various tile in a concrete surface, you needed to pour a new concrete slab and then stamp the freshly poured concrete with embossing tools. Although this may be the ideal application for new concrete pours, but what about concrete surfaces that are already existing?
Color Stone, Inc. offers architects, project managers and specifiers detailed information, documentation and other necessary components to help make the specification of architectural concrete finishes, overlays and custom interior floor finishes a high performance and elegant element simple and part of your overall design.
The following is a partial client list that have had architectural overlay systems installed. If you are in the Chicago or suburban Chicago area and would like to inspect our quality workmanship for yourself, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to provide you with a list of local installations.

Joe Scalise installed a new walkway in Oct 2019 from my driveway to the front door for approximately $4000. Looked fine initially but then I noticed a crack across the whole sidewalk where there was 1 step. I took a picture and immediately sent it to Joe and called him. I'll never forget his response. He said "it was an act of God and out of his control".
I said that's BS! This sidewalk cracked in less then 2 weeks after installation. You need to come and fix this immediately. Needles to say, he hasn't fixed it. Stay away from Joe Scalise. Funny thing is, he acts like he's super religious. Goes to church every Sunday, plays the part. If he really believed, he wouldn't cheat his customers. Bottom line, he's not only a cheat but a hypocrite.

As we again head into the peak season for Joe to rip people off I wanted to add the most recent review on google and yelp shown as "not recommended". Agin, Joe has tried to take a deposit and not do any work as he tried to do with me several years ago. Please do not trust this man, or any of his employees. You will end up in court trying to recover your money. Tony Ferraro Local Guide9 reviews7 photos a month ago I'd like to warn anyone thinking about doing business with Joe Scalise and Colorstone.
There was an attempt made on this company to take our deposit without performing any work. Significant amounts of time were wasted on my end trying to recover any portion of the initial deposit I could recover in court. We did settle through mediation, and Joe maybe walked away with $100-$200, hope it was worth it Joe. This is an awful company. Critical: Professionalism 4

I hired ColorStone to do a partial concrete driveway replacement. I'm a picky customer, but they are clearly a team of highly skilled professionals and did an excellent job in a timely manner. I highly recommend them. My neighbors were amazed by the quality and appearance of my new immaculately done concrete. Thank you Joe!

I cannot say enough good things about this company! I have been so pleased with the epoxy work that was done in my basement that I hired them a second time to lay concrete in my backyard. What Joe and his team did with stamped concrete around my pool turned my backyard into a paradise! I could not be happier with the work that has been done and the level of professionalism that was maintained throughout the job.

I reached out to Joe at color stone to complete a concrete patio in my yard. Joe and his team did a fantastic job, from beginning of the project to the end Joe was very up front with me and kept me updated at every stage of the project. On the installation date the color stone team was very professional and friendly, they treated my property with respect and cleaned up after the project. I will be doing business with Joe and Color stone in the future. I highly recommend Joe and Color Stone.

Buyer Beware! Joe Scalise is a lying thief! My husband and I were scammed out of 3,850 plus damages! He was hired to install a stamped patio! After contract was signed he tried milking us for more money after starting job! He is an arrogant liar who steals people's money! After damaging our property we called his insurance in which we found out was being cancelled for non payment!
After not responding to any messages of ours he proceeded to show up with the police to get his stuff and was arrested for outstanding warrants! He then proceeded to text me telling me the ball was in my court and if we didn't let him finish the job he was sueing us for the full amount plus court costs and attorney fees! Are you kidding me? He responded he has never lost a case!
Do your homework people cause we looked him up in every county and he has never won a case! This seems to be the way he does business! Stealing from hard working honest people! A section of my fence was knocked down and another section ran over, concrete slab on side of the house ran over and crushed, fence post taken out, mounds of dirt all around framing of patio in which he decided to design on his own without our opinion! I have 2 dogs that now do not have a yard to go in because of damage! His company doesn't even deserve 1 star! Bbb rating is a D-!

We used Color Stone to redo our garage floor. We had a large crack in the concrete which had to be repaired before the epoxy could be put down. Joe and his team did an excellent job and we are very pleased with the results. Joe made sure that our project was completed thoroughly and we appreciate his attention to detail. I highly recommend Color Stone!

Used Colorstone to re-finish 3000 sq. Feet of Oak flooring on 3 levels when we purchased our new home. Workers were very professional, very prompt and treated my home like it was there own! They went above and beyond to make sure every expectation and detail was met. LOVED the personal touch and would highly recommend!

We used Colorstone to redo the flooring at two of our restaurants in Lake Geneva the work was done quickly (worked thru the night) since we didn't want to keep our doors closed for to long. The finished product was exactly as we had hoped for. I would definitely use Colorstone for future jobs. Judy Loth

Please, Please stay away from this company! I have read the other reviews and we all are victims of this man's work. He completely ruin my front porch. Joe gave me a price and when the worker came, I had to give him an additional $1700 for a GREY color which in my opinion is the color of concrete, either way I was over charged for a terrible job.
This is not the worst of this disaster. He totally ruined my front porch. When I tried to contact Joe, he never returned phone calls or texts. Manuel (worker)who did the work would not return phone calls either. I honestly think Joe has one person working for him. Shame on Joe and Manuel for taking advantage of all of us consumers. You would think there would be someone to help keeping bad companies like this from doing business!

DO NOT hire Joe Scalise! I made the mistake of doing so in 2014. It was THE WORST experience I've ever had with a contractor as he tried to "bait-and-switch" - requiring me to pay nearly 2x his original estimate. It was so bad that I had to stop the project. I requested a refund and Joe refused. I had to take him to small claims court - which the judge ruled in my favor. (Look up Case Number 2014-M2-000458 in Cook County). Save yourself the headaches and find another contractor.

Completely agree with prior review. I wish I read this before hiring them. My experience was basically the exact same thing. We finally got the work completed by one of his workers. Manuel did a great job and is an excellent worker. His workers didn't even know how bad reviews were. Manuel is a perfectionist and takes pride in his work. Much different than Joe. Try to hire him individually if you can

My 20 year old stamped concrete pool deck needed a complete restoration. We got 5 bids for this job - all around $10,000. Yes, it was a big job. Color Stone came in around the middle, but Joe Scalise, the owner, assured us that HE was the right guy for the job because he'd been doing this for 25 years. He's the expert. So we went with him.
But quickly found out that his guy is a SCUMBAG. Really bad. As he got about half way done with the job, he informed us that the coping (area all around the perimeter of the pool) was not included. It would be an additional $1845 to finish this. Also, the area under the steps (which was about 10 square feet) was not included. That would be an additional cost.
Also there were three other previously repaired areas that were not included. They would be an additional $345. He finally semi finished the job, but left the previously repaired areas unfinished, and covered them with duct tape. For 9 weeks, we texted, called, emailed, sent pictures to remind him of the areas he did not finish, finally he agreed to send a guy out to finish them, but ONLY if we paid him in cash. Bottom Line: This guy is a SCUMBAG. He is dishonest and I would NEVER recommend him.

Joe is not a man of his word. He showed me examples and I picked out one I really like. What I got is nothing like his example. I have to wonder if that was really his work. Like the reviewer before me he did not complete the work. He left my patio a wreck. I will have to pay someone to repair it in the spring. I hired him in June he said it would be done in 2 weeks. Four months later and my whole summer ruined, he left the job a horrible mess. Don't use this company

Joe is just another nickle and dime contractor. Write down everything he promises or you will end up with an incomplete job like we did. Worst experience with a con man I am sad to report. His illegals did good work if he gave them enough material, if short a few feet too bad for you and your family. Strong advice here: look elsewhere.
