I ended up going with DiamondK after going to another local rock place and DiamondK. Their price is slightly better and delivery was much cheaper. Kevin was super helpful and friendly. I called and went in a couple times and got a lot of my questions answered. This place has a nice little store with supplies and bagged rocks that are easy to just pick up. I can't believe this place is located in downtown Lafayette

Professional. I have ordered twice so far. We have a steep driveway and their driver did an amazing job getting into our driveway, asked where we wanted them to place the gravel, and was just a nice person. I also appreciate them answering my questions. Prices were fair and customer service was good. Thank you!

Contrary to some of the older postings, I've had two very good experiences with Diamond K in the past two weeks. I suspect the negative narratives from the previous reviews must have prompted a major overhaul, because everyone I encountered went out of their way to answer my questions and load my car promptly with a very friendly send-off.

I've done a lot of business with Diamond K Supply over the last 15 years and for the most part they have been fine. Not great, but fine. Today I went in to Diamond K at 3:00 (they close at 3:30) and I asked for three bags of decomposed granite and was chastised by the man at the counter - stating that they don't fill bags after 2:00. He then said in this case he'd make an exception, but next time either come in earlier or call in my order ahead of time.
I didn't say anything other thank you, and got the feeling that he was doing me a favor. I think in the future I'll take my business elsewhere. Morgan's Masonary in San Ramon is a longer drive, but have much better hours, and much nicer staff.

It's less and less common to have such a great resource like Diamond K close by. For landscape professionals and homeowners alike it's a godsend. They stock everything you'll need to develop a landscape except low voltage lighting and wood for decks and fences etc. If you need stone, boulders, brick, slate, soil, decomposed granite drainage rock and pipe, filter fabric or weed barrier or irrigation parts or masonry supplies and tools.etc. etc. you are in luck!
They have much more than that as well I'm certain. They deliver and are open early. The staff are knowledgeable and kind. Shop Local. We need businesses like Diamond K to remain!

I'm a professional landscaper and have been going here for years. I'd gotten used to the borderline-surly, indifferent attitudes among counter and yard employees here. But a recent experience went wrong in so many ways, it made me decide to never patronize this business again. What happened? Yard attendant is busy, but says I'm next. I'm fine with that.
I wander around the stone selection, trying to keep him in sight. He disappears. His loader shuts down, then I hear him BSing with a couple people at the bottom of the yard. 10 minutes later he comes back. Takes my order, says he'll get started on it, tells me to go inside and pay. I do, giving the register guy the same slip of paper I showed the yard attendant.
I come back out and the yard guy is nowhere to be found. After I stand there for five minutes, another guy asks if he can help. I show him my receipt. He says "I don't think he started on this. He's over there helping another customer. I'll get on it." By now I've been here over a half hour. Other people have come in, loaded up, paid, and left. 10 minutes later he comes back with about half what I ordered.
I ask him about the missing stuff. "That wasn't on the receipt." We go back into the office. "Oh, we're out of that, I didn't charge you, " says the guy at the counter. It's now been almost 45 minutes, and I'm finally told the key item I came in for, and asked for nearly 45 minutes ago, isn't in stock. Inattentive customer service, lousy communication, wasted time. I'd really rather not drive out to Richmond (American Soil) or Concord (Mt Diablo Landscape), but after this experience, it's no contest.
The extra driving time is worth it for the professionalism, selection, and customer service. None of which you will find at Diamond K. This experience was like watching the Keystone Cops try to manage a game of Twenty Questions.

Don't know why there is so much whining from the consumers on this one. This isn't a Home Depot, it's a commercial oriented, not consumer oriented business. They sell to contractors mostly, so those kinds of businesses are always a different kind of consumer experience. My dad owned an HVAC business, selling equipment, for many years, and so I get it.
That being said, if you want rocks and tiles that you can't find at a big box store, and you want large or small quantities, this place is really good. I have bought a ton of drain rock from them int the past as well. Great shop.

I feel so lucky to have Diamond K near me. I have been a customer for nearly 20 years. They promptly deliver black mulch and top soil to my driveway every year. The guys are very knowledgeable and have also helped me with irrigation and drainage questions and I have been able to do my own repairs because of that. They have a good selection of products and they will deliver for a reasonable price. The store is geared toward professionals, but they will also help DIY homeowners.

I like to review my projects when complete to see what was good and what we could do better next time. This last project Diamond K was definitely the low point! We typically don't use these guys unless we have to (my expectations are already low from experience). However we needed to use them on the last project unexpectedly. 1. They don't know their business very well.
I called and the person who answered didn't even know some very basic terms. "Is that the same as this?" 2. Scheduling was interesting. They needed to re-schedule. And still didn't show up during the designated time. 3. Delivery was made to the wrong place we requested. The driver showed up and dumped in about 30 seconds before we could even tell him not to. 4 the driver was totally RUDE!
We told him that he dropped in the wrong place. "I DON'T HAVE TIME TO TALK TO YOU". 5. The product was a joke. Filled with debris from two other loads. Didn't bother to clean the truck out. We spent a lot of time just cleaning They are terrible!

Been shopping at this place for years and years. They've got a short guy with the gray goatee working there that must have taken specialty classes in how to be rude and unhelpful to customers. They don't allow customers to use the old bathroom which seems completely ridiculous. And to top it off their prices are not just a little bit above but way above everyone else. A big disappointment from this Lafayette institution

After going to two other local landscaping supply stores to choose stones for a garden path, we chose Diamond K because they were the most helpful (not greatly helpful, but much better than the other two stores we visited who would probably not help you if you were bleeding to death), and the shop is set up to help shoppers easily choose what they need.
Other "rock yards" had nothing on display and expected you to dodge forklifts and tiptoe around jagged chicken wire to look at the materials. Diamond K quoted us a price lower than the other stores for the stepping stones we wanted. We were thrilled and eagerly chose and loaded a ton (that's 2000 lbs!) of stones onto a pallet. The next day we came back to finish our order and we re told that the price we were quoted was wrong!
Our rocks ended up being 300-400.00 more than we thought. We could have walked away, gone to the other rock yard, tripped over chicken wire, and loaded ANOTHER 2000 lbs of rock and saved 300.00 but it wasn't worth it. Diamond K did give us free delivery as a result of this error, so that felt a little better. In the end, they sold us quite a bit too much, (which we could return, but do we want to load it up again it just use the stones elsewhere in our yard?). However, we are very happy our garden path and the quality of the materials we got at diamond, but double check the prices they quote you before you load stuff and know they will overestimate by a lot so you will overbuy.

They sell firewood, Oak but it must have been sitting out in the rain since it barely burns. I usually get Almond from Angels but ran out and needed some for two weeks. I have been burning wood for heat for years and have never had any trouble getting a fire roaring.except for this wood. Sorry I went for this wood.

Called ahead at 455p to make sure they sold work gloves. They told me they closed at 5 so I told them I'd be there but drove up at 501p. Seconds late. Door locked would not answer knock. Would not answer phone. I find it bad form to not wait 1 minute when someone calls ahead to say they will be there. So much for local personal service

I needed an alternative landscape materials supplier as the one I reviewed from San Ramon is not an option (see review below). These guys greeted me with a smile, gave me free bags of samples to take back home to test in my designs, and delivered 10+ yards of material at a very fair price. The quality is very good and I will come back for more in the future. Other people complain about their top soil quality, but everything else is GREAT!
