Great facility at main plant, fcfs, out side docks, easy in easy out and easy to find.

Get here before they open or you'll be sitting out in the road. Be prepared to wait awhile before unloaded and during.

We are adding an outdoor living space and looked everywhere to match our brick. After many stores we landed at General Shale. My husband picked out stacked stone that would play off the colors of our brick. When we were in the store we were able to take several samples home and had no issues. However, my husband called to place a order over the phone and was met with a very rude employee.

We were told 4-6 weeks. After 6 weeks my husband called and we were told it would be several more weeks. My husband them asked when the order was placed. Apparently, after he called to place the order no one there put the order in until a few weeks later. We then ran into the winter holidays. So, in early January, my husband called again and what do you know, our stone was in and had been in for several weeks.

No one called us. Well, today, my husband called to place another order ( due to needing more of the same stone). He spoke with the exact same person and while on the phone came up with the excuse that he had to remeasure because he was being talked to ao poorly. Well, my husband called the humbolt General Shale and spoke to a person there that was friendly and took our order. Also, my husbands co-worker just found out we had poor customer service at the Memphis location and said he had very poor customer service as well.

Absolutely the worst customer service (lack thereof) that I have ever experienced. I will never be back and will advise others to avoid at all costs.

We are building a house through Regency and chose General Shale brick. They went above and beyond to help me. Katie was very nice to offer to take the time to come look at our house. I would highly recommend this company as far as customer service goes.

This would have to go down as one of the most unpleasant consumer experiences I've ever had. I don't believe that I've been treated so poorly in all my time on this earth! I went there (by recommendation of a regular customer) for a brick match I needed to complete a project I was working on and was greeted by a young lady at the front desk, who was assisting someone else by telephone.

I saw the brick displays so I began to help myself. I locked eyes with the gentleman sitting in the office, but he didn't bother to ask if I needed help. When the young lady was finished with her call, she then got up and asked if I was trying to match a brick? I then went into explaining what I was doing and she asked for a picture of the brick. I gladly showed her and she said that she would be back with a brick that may be close.

After I was being helped, the guy finally came out of his office to see the brick I was trying to find. I reluctantly showed him and without looking for two seconds, he says "that is the ugliest brick I ever saw.nobody can help you with that" and went right back to his office. At that moment I was terribly offended. The lady then came back up front with a brick that was closer than what I had been able to find at any of the other brick places.

I kindly thanked her for her effort, and she said to let her know if that brick will work, but I refuse to spend a dime in a place where someone could speak to a potential customer in such a way. I was so upset that I forgot to get his name. He wore glasses though. I hope that this is not the way that customers are spoken to on a regular basis. I will not be returning. I apologize for the lengthy comment but people should know.

These people seem to be annoyed by their customers, and DON'T ask them to special order ANYTHING. I purchased two 13" by 13" clay chimney flues to repair my existing 1958 chimney. My old chimney flues are an odd size (12.25 x 12.25). And apparently, 13x13 is now the standard. After figuring out that the 13x13s wouldn't fit in the space between my chimney walls, I returned them and asked if they carried 12"x12".

I was told they did not carry them, and could not order them. When I returned the flues, I was told that someone would call me later to get my credit card information and complete the return process. Two days later, no one had called, so I called them back to get my refund. While on the phone, I explained that I found 12x12 flues on the Superior Clay manufacturer's website, and the website says General Shale is an authorized distributor.

I was then transferred to Clay, the salesman that handled my original order. Clay said "I'm not going to order those flues. It would be a nightmare to get them here, and it would just confuse my warehouse guys. I'm just not going to do it." Gee, thanks Clay. Afterwards, I called Superior Clay and asked if they could help me find a place to purchase them.

The very nice gentleman said I could buy them from General Shale. I explained how they refused to sell them to me. The gentleman then told me to try Magnolia Brick Company in Tupelo, MS. The only problem is, they are 1.75 hours away. However, I called them, and I'm glad I did. Not only did they agree to order them, they said they had 2 employees who live in Memphis and one of them agreed to bring them to me on his way home. Thats what I call customer service! Above and beyond! General Shale needs to take some notes from Magnolia Brick. I will never buy anything from General Shale again.
