Tim Stensvad met with me about building a home. He wanted cash up front to pay for his daughters wedding. ($35,000). I said no. He then took the $35,000 out of the Down payment that was supposed to pay for doors, windows and a roof. He will take your money. Do not use him or his company. Dishonest and not trustworthy. Not reliable. Worst mistake I've ever made.

The design and budgeting process went very well. Steve aka Ed was very helpful through the process. When we built the budget we were told to round up the numbers to get a cushion. Some items will come in above budget and some will come in below. During the build it was discovered that Tim Stensvad would tell the subcontractor what our budget was for that item.

So each sub wanted exactly our budget # for the work. There was no cushion and every little change was insured to be over budget and a extra! This was not the way the process was described during the sales pitch and design. Very disappointing. Tim was a very poor communicator and seemed to always take the subcontractor side on any dispute. Tim would not let us know when subs would be doing the work so it was difficult to coordinate scope and basic expectations. Most subcontractors did a good job. I would not recommend MLH.

My husband and I built our log home using Modern Log Homes in Denver. We had the home built in a ski resort in the Colorado Rockies. It took a year to complete the house and the entire experience was a horrible nightmare! The subcontractors were incompetent and did a poor job (most of them were from Denver and north of Denver). We have lived in the house now for a year and a half and we are miserable.

The winter has been especially difficult because the logs were not well connected and we feel the wind ( at 10 below 0 or lower sometimes) blowing right between the logs. Our furnace is on 24/7 and the heating bill is through the roof. Last spring we had roof leaks and about 1/3 of our wood floor had to be pulled up and replaced. The list goes on and on. Bottom line: if you use Modern Log Homes as your contracting company you will be very sorry and the company will do nothing to correct the costly mistakes.
