In some respects, customer service is fabulous, and it's good enough that I'd want to work with them again. In other areas, it could use some improvement. I placed an order for EPS rigid foam. I asked about the brand (was told they used several) and even the R value, which I said sounded suspiciously high. I never ever ever mentioned XPS since I hate it.

What they delivered was mostly XPS! From an environmental perspective, the embodied carbon in that XPS offset by an order of magnitude the carbon benefits of the improved insulation. Unfortunately I had given myself no wiggle room for the installation and had to use it or have a dangerously cold house all winter. I also wanted tape for air sealing, hoping they carried Siga or similar.

They only had stucco tape. The foam boards were so dirty on delivery that the stucco tape stuck really poorly and was close to useless. The corners of some of those boards were also smushed, so they would not have been useful if you were trying to build a tight envelope. Everyone was really nice and helpful when I talked with them on the phone, and it's great that they do delivery and pickup.

The EPS-XPS swap made me really sad, though, since there's such a big difference between the two. I'll be more careful working with Hylton in the future and inspect the exact items I'm buying. The process made me wish they had a functioning website like the big box stores and better quality control on dirty/damaged products.

I found the office staff to be very friendly and helpful. My request for material was hacked quickly and professionally. The "yard" crew were were also courteous as they loaded my truck with my material. A good stop for the weekend DIY projects.

The staff was very courteous. I needed bed slats and i brought one home to see if my measurement was correct and indeed it was spot on so they cut the rest for me. Some time later i realized they were falling out of the bed frame on one side or the other because they had shrunk. They were fill in support for the slats that came with the bed. The only thing keeping them from falling out completely is the center support in the frame. Very disappointed.

We found this place through the recommendation of other lumber businesses in Chaffee County. We wanted some shelves made of hickory. Hylton had a choice of either hickory or pecan, and an individual capable of working with it. We got several custom shelves made that were flawlessly fit and finished at a reasonable price. Communication was efficient and everyone I encountered was professional.

The shop was busy, but still neat and clean. There is a relatively large staff, only one of which does this woodwork, as far as I could tell. That said, if you need help with other lumber-related business, help is probably easy to find. I particularly liked being able to talk directly with the craftsman so we could be clear on specifications and timing.

Nothing but good things to say about Hylton Lumber. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and terribly helpful to Harry Homeowner DYI guy. If you want a treat, visit the cabinet shop. It's a trip back to the wood shop; saw dust and aromas of just cut hardwoods.

Very helpful, curtis, & friendly. Also gave me a good ole boy deal on some tools.

They don't post a sign complying with health guidelines requiring a mask during this coronavirus pandemic - further, they don't wear masks and customers feel free to not wear masks. Good lumber. Enter at your own risk.

Hylton Lumber has been extremely helpful during my garage project. Best in the Salida area IMO.
