Ganahl Lumber Company is the oldest lumberyard in all of California. Others have come and gone but we're still here prospering! It all started in 1884, when an Austrian immigrant named Christian Ganahl and his brother Frank moved to Los Angeles from St. Louis where they were shopkeepers.

Gougeahl more like. Home depot, Lowes, everywhere else prices are going down. Came here for thin plywood and price has gone up $16 per sheet in 6 weeks. Come on guys seriously. Their staff can't even get their story straight. Guy at back counter says prices going down, guy at front counter says prices going up. Smh

I talked with somone over the phone about replacing my interior doors. She sent me a quote that was reasonable. I went to the store to see a sample or at least something that was comparable. The person I spoke to was off that day. The Bald guy that was working on Saturday was eager to help, but when he heard i had a quote from someone else he became very rude.
I bet they work on commission. I told him I was quoted doors around $200-300 a piece that were solid wood shaker doors. I needed like 30 of them so it was a 10K project. He said he did not know what door could have been quoted so low as solid doors are $800 a piece. He then told me I did not want what I ordered because a shaker door sounds awful and is not really solid because it has a recessed panel.
I asked him what other solid doors could they get quickly and he told me that I did not want a solid door as they are to heavy to hang. I walked out and will be buying from someone else. Ive replaced doors in the last 3 homes and I know exactly what I wanted. With kids, and a media room a solid door dramatically helps with sound and Ive bought many doors before.
I know what I want and don't need to be told what I want. We commented to the cashier on the way out that the bald door guy was a jerk and he laughed. One would think you would get a manager. There is a reason there were only 5 people in the store.

Thank you Eunice for helping me order interior doors for my home! It was such a pleasure to speak to her and she was very helpful in making sure I order the right "true shaker" door I wanted for my home. Thank goodness they had them available and at a great price! It was easy order, fast delivery and easy pick Up! Thanks again Eunice

The nice thing about this place is that you can pick your wood, but in our two pallets, there are very few straight ones, so there were very few opportunities for us to choose in grain pattern and color. We asked them to glue up three pieces of 11 feet mahogany. They charged us more than $1,100 and told us that they cannot guarantee this and they cannot guarantee that. So, after selecting wood for a couple hours under the sun, without the designated help gone after a few minutes, we gave them up. Dave's quote for 3 raw mahogany plank is $1,820, 3 times more expensive than the quote I got from other lumber, also more expensive than their own price tag in the store. I did not want to waste my time to figure out how he calculated.

Big selection of wood. And custom doors. This place has everything you are looking for in wood. Way more selection of wood than Home Depot. If you are looking for something to build with the right kind of wood this place has it. Only reason they didn't get a 5 star is because the one I went to in Anaheim, no one helped us when we needed it and when we got the guy to help cut the wood he was really grumpy. But everything else was fine

Incompetent credit manager (I believe her name is Ellen, in the Anaheim yard) who wants to make a name for herself, causing a major waste of time. She also had the audacity of refusing to take my call or return my voicemail after the sales associate transferred my call to her (the sales associate confirmed she was in the office, and herself admitted that she was frustrated, and could not understand why they would not accept the order). 1.
We provided a credit card authorization form with a copy of my out of state driver's license and US passport for a $15K order. Note: this driver's license alone was enough for me to buy a $60,000 vehicle via phone from a Los Angeles-based dealership. Additionally, a passport is accepted in any place of business as an equivalent form of ID as a driver's license. it appears that the person I was dealing with has probably never left the country and likely doesn't know what a passport is. 2. Secondly, I offered to complete the transaction with my wife's credit card and California driver's license, with her signing the paperwork.
This request was refused because it would "raise too many questions". 3. There is no way I will ever entertain a bid or contemplate utilizing Ganahl for any current future projects. You have lost on what could have been a meaningful pipeline of business. 4. I was able to place the same order via phone this afternoon with another supplier (BMC), with a 3.5% discount over the Ganahl quote, with no issues.

Dave is the best. Just needed a few pieces of white oak to trim out our kitchen remodel. Even though it wasn't a big order, you'd think we were spending 10k the way Dave treated us. From picking out a good piece, to cutting it, to a little mill work, then taking delivery of the final product. Above and beyond great customer service. Everyone was actually super friendly and helpful. Great experience.

I've been working with Ganahl since Mike way was around that's over 20 years. There Custmer service no longer exist! I had them quote a job and it was 150k. literally 3 weeks later it was 173k. I told them to lock in my price at 150 but they refused to honor my price! Thanks to Nate! I shopped around and found the same lumber quote for 145k at champion lumber after Ganahal quoted me 173k. Please make sure you shop around, if I'm being treated like this after 20 plus years of business you are just a nobody.

They have good building products for our home renovation. The only reason it's not a 5 star rating is the woman at the Will Call counter whom every time (we've been here multiple times) we pick up our orders, she is always impatient and behaves like it's a bother to assist. Not every customer is experienced and buying materials for a homeowner (not a contractor) can be intimidating. A little kind and patient customer service should be basic.

This place is a joke. No one wants to help. Then when you get some one to help you find out the price is way to much. I asked why they are so much more then Home Depot or Lowe's. The rep stated, we give better quality. Um it's the same product. I called and talked to the manager as I left I asked why there prices are so much more. He stated that he had not good answer.
Here his there slogan. Ganahl we give you same quality as other products for a higher price. Wow no wonder why they have a small parking lot and no one is in the store. If you looking for a place you don't have to worry about social distancing then place is the place for you. But you have to pay the price for it.

My son was their getting some idea for his Eagle project needs. We had no idea what is what. Two gentlemen of the lumber department saw us and started asking my son what they could help and gave him a lot of ideas of different woods. My son is in Asperger spectrum. They are so patient and nice. A couple months later, my son had a better idea what his project would be like, he came back to look for what kinds of screw, paint. and other materials he should buy. Again, they are all very helpful and friendly. I heard they sponsor Scouts a lot. Highly recommend Ganahl!

Came in the other day to purchase a few hundred dollars worth of items. Within minutes a lady comes up to us to ask if we need help. We tell her no, we are ok, but thanks. A few moments later the dude that was clearly in charge of the store of the floors comes up to me to ask if I need help. Once again we tell them no, as I know my way around the store.
When I am checking out, I get asked for my ID. At this point it was damn clear they were thinking I was going to steal all along. I ended up walking out with at least $300 worth of Milwaukee tools, but I will never shop here again. Made me way too uncomfortable.

Worst Ganahl I've ever been to by far. We went to get some wood cut by the mill. Paid $250 for the wood, and they got the cuts wrong. It took us two hours of waiting for them to get us our wood only for it to be wrong. After realizing it was cut incorrectly, they absolutely dragged their heels about fixing it. $250 and literal hours of my time wasted. Won't be back.

You don't expect much from a lumber yard in this sort of area but I am pretty happy with this location. Most Ganahl locations are actually pretty good (for lumber yards) but this place is clean, organized, easy to maneuver, and friendly. The drivers are courteous and the cashiers are kind and patient. The parking is shockingly full all the time but there's additional parking in the back so just follow the signs.
Many people seem upset with this place so maybe I just get lucky when I come.or maybe because I'm just nice to people instead of acting like an entitled POS so I don't get treated poorly. Dunno.

What an amazing company, I've purchased numerous items from Ganahl but nothing prompted me to write a review until today. I recently decided to go through them for a small wood project I just didn't have the time for. I was in no rush for the project but had very strict dimensions required. They assured me it would be no problem and as far as the sizing goes it wasn't.
We ran into a few hiccups along the way with time and organization. I heard it will be ready tomorrow more than once and it kept getting pushed. I had no problem with this at all as I was in no hurry but the salesman I went through was not happy with the results he was providing me. Along with keeping me 100% up to date (sometimes with false info not due to his fault) He realized this was unacceptable.
He went above and beyond my expectations by providing the product to me free of charge and even went as far as delivering the product personally. Customer service is a 5 star review all day long only reason for 4 is due to their mill not being as organized and efficient as they could be.

Our first visit to this location. They have Everything! Great selection and in good quantity. I do want to personally thank "John" working in the #2 Bay lumber area outside--he was very helpful and provided information that made our selection of materials much faster ( and less expensive)! We also appreciated that employees were wearing masks while assisting customers. Thank you John, you made our time there today much easier!

I've given this company, Corona and Anaheim the benefit of the time on several ocasions. The employees in the lumber department are to cool for the customers. God forbid, you ask for advice, opinion or simple guidance. They shrug their shoulders, roll their eyes and act like they're doing you a huge favor. Lol. I drove to the Anaheim store a week ago, after waiting for someone to help me, even though 4-6 employees were all standing behind the counter having a wonderful conversation.
I finally was blessed to be helped my an employee. He didn't care or help me one bit. I left the location and went to another store and spent $1,846.34 on some wood counters that I needed. Im sure the owners would not be very happy, or they too don't give a crap! Oh well, the consumer always has the option of where they leave their money.
Step it up Ganahl. PS: To their defense, the ladies at the front cashier counter did greet us and asked us if we needed any help. They were friendly. The Lumber Counter personnel a damn shame.

How do you justify insanely high prices that are over 5x's higher than home Depot? I guess they have gotten so comfortable with screwing the community they feel no need to rectify pisspoor customer service. I asked for help to find parts for fabricating a repair, I was ignored for nearly 30 minutes and then after I found what I could use (no thanks to their customer service) I find out that these parts I found are nearly a quarter each that HD sells for 5 each.
The manager came up and apologized for the poor service, and that was it. So I won't be wasting my time going where one gets filet mignon prices but worse than home Depot treatment

Of the four Ganahl locations I shop at, this one is the worst. Stopped by recently to buy some caulk an asked a question of the guy in the window department, didn't get his name, it was the dude with the device in his ear lobe, he was anything but helpful, acted like he was mis match for the position he was filling. Don't worry, go back to sleep. I'll shop somewhere else.

Ganahl has the best paint department of any lumber yard, hands down! Full selection of Benjamin Moore paint, as well as Penofin wood stains and Life Deck Coatings for high performance floors. I get all my paint here and always get perfect color matches every time - often on the same day because they're so fast. Solid electrical and plumbing departments too, for that one-stop shopping I love.

2 stars for checkout, woman was on her phone, took out ear buds, I seem to startle her, guess this is the new disengaged generation, seemed like I was bothering her, but she loved it when another girl came over to dance to the loud country music on the PA. Customer service is lacking at the front end.

I come to this particular store often. I'm sometimes greeted at the door. But most of the time the great service from the paint sales department Nyla Olvera is a exceptional service sales rep. and always makes things easy for my painters & my business. I would probably say that's the only reason why I rated it 5 stars. Other than that, the store has a lot of items.

You know that feeling you get everytime you rush into a store, right before closing? you know. that every employee is giving you that, "i want to go home death stare." Well, it is actually the complete opposite-I never once felt rushed or as though I was a nuisance. Thank you Jimmy for taking the time to help me out, you and the rest of your staff were amazing!
I greatly appreciate all your help. But a couple of tips before I end this. Tip #1: It would have been nice to see some type of price signage. I understand that prices may vary depending on the type, size, and LINEAR footage (lol. o-m-g), however even an approximation of $x.xx- $x.xx- just so the poor associate isn't running back to the counter everytime you want to compare prices. Tip #2: it might be a little more efficient to categorize the hardwoods by size as well. Tip #3: Jimmy should get a raise, lol.

I usually don't go here unless Home Depot or Lowes doesn't have what I'm looking for. When I walked into the store, I noticed that it was very clean. I also noticed that none of the employees greet you as you enter or offer their assistance on each aisle like how Home Depot does. It's great that they have every lumber in stock, but I still give it a three star because the lumber is usually bent, probably caused by being in the sun, and their service is not that great.
