Whether you have pets that you want to keep safe while outdoors or you need some privacy from your neighbors, Action Fence provides a variety of residential fencing. Their crew does a very clean, and really sharp looking fence. The materials they use were top notch and the attention to detail was there. From top to bottom very pleased with their work, fit my budget perfectly, and everyone was easy to communicate with. Will be telling my neighbors to use them when their fences need attention. I had 2 fences installed on 2 different residential properties.

Butch did a great job explaining the product and answered all of my questions. My fence looks amazing as well as the custom gate works well. The installers were professional with high quality standards and very punctual. Thank you Butch, installers, and Action Fence Services: Wood fence installation, Fence installation, Custom fabrication

I have used this company in the past and they were great. But now not at all. I need some repair work on my fence due to the high winds. I called end of Feb and left my contact#. After 2 weeks called back and couldn't leave info as mailbox was full. Called again in a few days and message stated to fill out form on website (this is now March) which I did. Heard nothing and am perturbed, but since they were great in the past, thought I would give them a courtesy call to let them know before I left a review.
Finally got through to a person who apologized and stated they were going through changes. Took my info and stated he would have someone get back to me. Guess what - no one did. Called again, got through to an estimator Anthony on April 12 who said he would come out the following week and gave me his #. So heard nothing and followed up via text on the 21st and 25th. I'm done. Worst service ever. Not sure how long they will be in business with this crap

I asked for an estimate and the salesman said he couldn't do it in my 1st area. So I moved up and said then that I would like the fence to come even with the front of my house. Salesman kept trying to tell me it should end close to my deck and patio and I told him no 4 different times. I found out that the estimate he gave me was where he wanted it to go and where I kept saying no to and also they broke the outside water spigot. Called and talked to Butch and he came out on December 27, 2021 and I showed him were I thought that I was getting the fence out too but that didn't happen and showed him the broken spigot.
I was told he would get this corrected but I would have to pay more and he gave me the dollar amount. I said ok as long as the fence went out to where I originally asked for and not what the original salesman wanted and that someone fixed my outside water. He said he would send me the paperwork and I haven't seen anything from him and haven't heard from him and fence hasn't been moved out to where I originally wanted it and the outside water is still broken.
I trusted them but I realized that they care more about the commercial side of business because they have a contract. Residential side they don't care what a customer wants or asks for, but they should because we all work hard for our money. And they should make sure material is good and will last for the customer.

The workers are very nice and hard working, we had Robert. It's unfortunate for this review since the reason is Butch. If you run across him he'll be very difficult to get ahold of (especially when he has your money) and was very disrespectful and rude to me as the customer. They need to hire a better front man, and I'm not the only one who's run across this issue with him. Just be warned.

I would give them 10 Stars if I could - Simply the best! I four bid my fence project and Mike came out during freezing rain in October and my fence project went into a forested area. Out of all four, he was the only one who went into the forest to measure walking through buckthorn to give me an accurate estimate while the others who had perfect weather stood clear of the forested area.
I knew at that point I had to hire these guys. The action fence team helped me save money by suggesting chain link in the forested area as no one would see it. It also allowed me to keep a natural look around my pool. I covered about a.25 acres with a mix of Aluminum and Chain Link. It was a highly complex job that required avoiding pool pipes, drainage, electrical wires, etc. The fence looks perfect and the installation crew (Reuben & his team) was on-time & professional. Definitely recommend action fence.

Had an initial fence quote in April but our patio project delayed. Over the last few months the scope of the project had changed and we had evolved our interest in the type of fencing. "Mike" was pretty rude on the phone and had no interest in coming out for a discussion and requote. Must have too much business.

They use Asian Cedar and don't tell you. While they write "Red Cedar" on your contract, you're getting asian cedar, which is known to be inferior to Western Red Cedar. 2 different crews came on different days and one installed a clearer grade cedar than the other resulting in different looking sides. The 2nd crew also didn't install their side of the fence properly. Additionally, the boards are ALREADY warping and it's been installed for less than 2 months. I've heard from other professionals that the gates aren't going to last long due to the poor installation.

Worst costumer service! Got an estimate in March, gave them the permit and deposit 1st week of April. Told we have to wait 6-9 weeks for installation. Everytime we call to inquire, the lady who answers their phone, DOESN'T know anything! She automatically transfers the call to Butch who DOESN'T answer nor RETURN a call. Had to play phone tag with Butch all the time.
When they finally gave us a date, my husband and i had to rearrange our schedule, but then they DIDN'T show up! Called their number the lady can't give us an answer so we have to play phone tag with Butch again, and when we finally got him on the phone he was the RUDEST person ever and just gave us excuse after excuse. We don't mind waiting, but the lack of communication, and rudeness is not something i look for when i do business with anyone, we cancelled and asked them to return our deposit.

Action Fence did a great job with our fence from start to completion. Mike provided an on-site estimate and offered good suggestions on how to handle some easements. The installation crew (Francesco and Carlos) was courteous, professional, and skilled. Kelsi in the office was great too. Very satisfied with our cedar board on board fence and gates. Got five estimates and Action Fence was very competitive. Would recommend Action Fence to family and friends.

Very happy with Action Fence. We had a red cedar fence installed in our back yard and couldn't be happier! Butch and crew did a great job! The installers take pride in their work and cleaned up everything after they were done. Butch stopped out to check in and make sure everything was going good. Pricing was very fair as I did obtain several quotes before deciding on them. I would recommend them without hesitation. Thanks Action Fence!

Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, Responsiveness Easily the least professional company I've ever worked with. They took our deposit and have proceeded to ignore us for a month. We called six times before getting our build scheduled. Then, they made the fence six feet shorter than the contract! It's been like pulling teeth to get them to fix it. Extremely rude customer service.

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone ever again! We used them for our fence and suggested them for our neighbors. They installed their fence, but moved the fence line over and left all the old fence posts and old cement in our yard. I've called 6 times and had several "we'll be out next week" schedules and no shows and this week was the final straw.
We will now be hiring someone to clean up our yard for the garbage and hazards for our children they've left behind, that's not counting the fence they detached and didn't reattach. The cement and posts were left in the area of my kids playset and a tripping hazard!

Butch and his crew were great. Good price, timely installation, and quality communication. Did not catch the names of the two guys that put up our fence yesterday, but they were great; worked all day long (9am-5:45pm) without even taking a lunch break. Saw a review about the fence posts not being dug down deep enough. I watched them dig the holes and they were at least four feet deep. Assuming this holds up over the years, it was a great investment!

Action Fence did a great job installing my fence and worked with me to get the village of Libertyville permit. However, I am not satisfied with the damage they did to my underground sprinkler pipe and the drain pipe attached to my pool filter. I asked them to split the $280 repair bill and they ignored my request.

Action Fence did a fantastic job with our fence! We added wooden fencing along 3 sides of our fairly large yard, and added 2 lockable wooden gates. Action Fence came in with a competitive and fairly priced bid out of the 3 reputable fencing companies we contacted. Their sales rep was professional and didn't pressure us at all. Our fence was installed well ahead of schedule.
A big thank you to the install crew! Francisco and his team worked hard and installed our fence in one day, which is amazing. Also amazing is that the fence is perfect - the installers clocked an 11 hour day, and their craftsmanship looks great, which I know that I personally could not do. All the little details turned out right. The gates lock easily and swing seamlessly.
The finished look of the fence is great. We are getting complements left and right about our new fence. Our dogs love it, too! Overall, I would strongly recommend Action Fence. If you're *on the fence* about getting an estimate from them, do it! (Oh I do love a lousy pun.)

Action Fence was one of numerous companies recommended to us via our local neighborhood community group. We had 6 estimates from reputable companies (I researched all of them even after the recommendation), and Dan Lawson with Action Fence came in towards the low to middle end of the group in terms of pricing. Pricing, coupled with reviews, brochure, and availability of the fencing we wanted ultimately made us choose Action.
We originally went into it thinking we were going to do picket fencing, but after careful consideration and keeping in mind the upkeep needed for a wooden fence, we opted to change to aluminum. The color we wanted (black matte) was a custom order that needed a 4 week lead time, which we were completely fine with. The day of the installation, the crew showed up bright and early, only for us to find out the sales person who had come out to measure and give us the quote (Dan Lawson) measured incorrectly and somehow shorted the estimate by 25 feet!
How that happens, I'm still not sure. Since this was a custom order, the crew informed us that they wouldn't be able to do anything other than to put in an additional order for the remaining material, and come back in another 4wks. Desperate and upset, I called and spoke to Butch Haack, who was the project manager, to see what could be done.
Not only did we need our fence up (we had a huge family party the next day with both kids and dogs present), but we were not about to pay additional cost for something that was not our mistake. Butch offered to have his crew put up the material they had on hand, and to patch the remaining area with chain link until they could get the new order in.
We were relieved, as something was better than nothing. A few hours later, Butch paid us a personal visit and informed us that he was able to pull black matte aluminum from an upcoming job and complete ours all in one day. He also said he would handle the back end logistics of the mess up with the sales guy and not to worry about anything else. Not only did Butch go above and beyond our expectations in terms of customer service, but our fence looks amazing! Had it not been for him, this review would have gone a very different way. Thank you for making a wrong situation right Butch, and you can bet your ass we'll be sending friends and family your way.

They installed my fence in the wrong place. took a few calls to get them to come back out and fix. they moved the cement posts, and left huge holes in the lawn. they also removed the gutter spout and didn't tell us. my tenants have called recently to have them fix some problems and they have not done so. would not recommend and won't use again.

I had three estimates from reputable companies. I initially wanted exposed wrought iron posts with traditional wooden slats but could not justify the cost. Action Fence did not offer this option. However, I liked the idea of the galvanized steel posts because they add strength and longevity and felt that they compromised very little in the looks department.
It was just over two and a half weeks from the time of the estimate until the actual install. I recommend being home for the install, and at an absolute minimum, being present for an initial walk through with the foreman before any digging or teardowns begin. Our foreman was Reuben and he was excellent. These guys are craftsman. The fences are stick-built built on site, even the gates are custom made. That's why you should be there - Reuben will totall customize your gates.
Swing in? Swing out? Extra wide in the back in case you need to get construction equipment there in the future? Which side do you want the lock on? Etc., etc. All the workers were fiendly, polite, and they cleaned up their mess. Description of work: Teardown of 20 feet of pre-existing wood fence and 133 feet of steel cyclone fence. Install 200 feet of western red cedar fence (5') with galvanized steel posts and capboard. Two gates (42" front and 48" rear)

I would not recommend this company. My neighbor used them and they had a good experience. While their fence was being installed, they cut our cable line. They did not tell my neighbor or us. We had Comcast come out the next day to fix it. My husband decided to use them anyways. (against my best judgment) They would not schedule the appointment until the permit was approved.
They did however take a deposit. Once the permit was approved their schedule was full for the next week. We scheduled our appointment a little over a week out. I was not able to take off work, but my husband did. We were scheduled for this morning at 9am. At about 9:30 my husband called to see what was going on since no one showed up. They told him that due to the weather they were going to reschedule us because their other jobs took longer.
No call, no show. We had to call them. The guy Bruce did not seem to think that a no call no show was a big deal. I spoke with the VP who had Bruce in his office. I was told that they did not have the fence in stock. Bottom line, worst customer service ever. Go with a different company and save yourself the stress.

I had Action Fence come out in 2006 and install a new fence. Cost was approx. $6,000.00-a big chunk of money. Two years ago, (ONLY 8 years later) my first fence post rotted. This year I had 3 go down and more are on the way. Everything you read about cedar wood installation says that it should last 15-20 years-NOT 8 years. They tried to tell me it's because of the moisture, insects, etc.
If that were the case then why all the same issues in Yelp? Why have my in-laws, who recommended this company, experienced the same issues with rotting posts? I had another company repair the last two that went down and he said the concrete wasn't set properly to begin with. I can believe this. After all, I should've known the standard of the workers when I saw a couple of the guys urinating behind my shed during the installation. Yep, that's no lie.
Now I question everything on the materials too. Was it really cedar? Was it the lowest quality and they charged me for the better stuff? It's terrible that people cannot find a reputable company to do a good job and then to BACK UP their workmanship when it goes bad. Do not use this company.

Action Fence installed a 6 Ft. metal fence around part of our yard about 3 years ago and over that time the levels have shifted making it difficult to open one of the 2 gates that we have (the other gate needed a minor adjustment). I called them to give me an estimate for leveling the fence so that the gate will work. Initially it took at least 2 weeks to get in touch with someone who could give me information (they did not return my phone messages).
When I finally was able to speak to someone I was told that the installation was not guaranteed and I would have to pay for the repairs (not surprising and I agreed to this). When they did come out (without notification) they charged me $160 to move one latch which probably took about 15 minutes of work. While I had agreed to this charge, I was not informed that it was a really easy job and would only take a few minutes.
There is also now a hole in the fence where a screw was removed to adjust the location of the latch. While I did agree to the estimate, I was not informed of the scope of the work and feel very taken advantage of. I will have second thoughts in the future about using this company for future fence repairs and suggesting them to others needing a new fence.

We used them years ago, the fence was not installed correctly from the beginning. After putting in the posts, they didn't wait for the concrete to set, so the posts are crooked. The posts are also rotting because the concrete was not capped above the soil, so water pools and rots the wood. We have replaced at least 5 posts already, and will need to replace more this summer.
The gates never worked correctly, have never even closed evenly. After a shoddy installation we refused to pay the balance until all the errors were corrected. Action refused and took us to court. We immediately put the balance in escrow with our attorney to show we were the ones being ripped off, and took pictures to court. The judge agreed with us that several issues needed to be fixed before Action should be paid.
Most of the things were fixed, but I got tired of having to be home for them to continually try to get it right, so we finally just released the money to them. The fence, after about seven years, was better used for kindling than privacy, it began rotting and falling apart almost immediately. The reviews with the pretty pictures are new fences, they do not last!

I had them put up a 6-ft privacy fence last fall. It was bad enough that I requested 6 x 6 posts at the gate and received 4 x 6 so I can't find any decorative cap posts, it's bad enough they didn't know how to build a trellis even tho their own website has a photo of one so I had to "compromise", it's bad enough they second guessed me at every turn without discussing with me first, it's bad enough they didn't do the gate right and I had to pay to have it redone this year. it's bad enough they didn't put the post caps on the posts and then tried to tell me it was extra when the quote clearly stated it was included.but comes staining time and I am absolutely mortified at how many sections were not secured properly and now I have to spend THIS weekend screwing in way too many boards at the mid-section - they just skipped over a number of sections.
I will be ripping down their company sign off the fence this weekend and warning many to stay away from this company. I'm VERY disappointed as it was a huge yard and a massive investment. I would never recommend this company and haven't to date to a number of neighbors who have asked me about them. That Guy on 41 might be a bit more - but I've learned my lesson. I didn't save anything going with Action Fence. I would not recommend them.

This company does not accept responsibility when their fences fail due to poor construction practices. They built a fence for me - poured footings in the pouring rain and when the fence was finished, the poles had sunk deeper into the ground so now - less than a week later - the fence sits below ground and leans backwards. According to Action Fence, this is my fault because I didn't watch the man while he was doing the work. Beware -- they're one of those companies that just wants your money and doesn't care if you're stuck with their mistakes.

We had Action Fence install a 6' fence around our yard back in 2006 at a cost of $5551.00. After only 5 years 3 posts had rotted away at the ground level. When I called to ask them to replace these posts I was told they do not guarantee their materials and I would have to pay $500.00 to replace these posts. I thought that was ridiculous. I gave the work to a contractor friend who pointed out that the concrete was not properly poured.
It should have come up about 6 inches above the ground surface. Since it is below the surface any water pools at the posts and rots them. We have since had to replace 4 more posts and we reattach rails every time we experience windy or stormy weather. And the posts have had huge knots and gaps in them. Save your money and find another company. This company cuts corners at the customer's expense.
