Also while they are less expensive than custom from scratch, as we have already created the tooling, they will still be in most cases dramatically more in cost than the profiles we have in stock. If you can't find something in our stock or custom profile catalogs our team can also create an exact replica of the moulding you are looking for.
At Anderson & McQuaid Company, Inc, we have built a legacy of excellence in the Cambridge community. What a pleasure to go to Anderson & McQuaid today! I am not a contractor and didn't know what to expect when I showed up with my molding sample from my house but from Joe in the front office to the experts in the back warehouses, everyone looked at the molding I was trying to match, gave me their suggestions, and then sized it all out, cut the pieces, and had it all ready in 30 minutes.
It was a large order and it all seemed effortless and everything was in stock. They actually make all of these wonderful moldings and trim on site so their stock is quite good!

Extremely knowledgeable staff that is friendly and accessible. Bob in the molding department went above and beyond! He took the time to help me match moldings to a historic image in order for me to create a replica. Also, the wall of samples really allows a novice to see the moldings in 3D and better understand the catalogue. With employees like Bob, not going anywhere else for moldings.

Oh, how I love this place. I was sent to AM by my contractor to pick out molding for some that needed to be replaced in the 1900's house my husband and I are renovating. When I walked in I met Bob - my new best friend. Not only did he know what I believe to be every style that they carry off the top of his head, but he was incredibly helpful and insightful about project details that needed to be addressed.
Now whenever I go back, I always look for him. As for the product, the options are plentiful, the wood is great quality, and each and every piece was assessed before the final sale. I will go back here for any and all of my woodworking projects in the future and I highly recommend you do as well. Thank you Bob and Anderson & McQuaid Co!

I have been working on our renovation for a few years now and have gone to many, many home improvement supply places. Not only does this place have an amazing array of molding options they have the friendliest most helpful employees. I walked in there with no idea what I wanted but needed to get something ASAP for the contractors who were waiting for me.
I was approached by Bob who quickly pointed out some excellent options, set them up so I could visualize it, cut it to size and loaded it in my car. He was easy going and patient and funny! This renovation has been a bear but it is experiences like this that keep me going. Thanks Bob, we could not have asked for better service or advice!

I walked into Anderson & McQuaid and showed the gentleman behind the desk a sample of the molding I came for for my 1896 house. He directed me to Building 1 and said the options of wood were poplar or sapele. I went back to Building 1 and was immediately and cheerfully greeted by Bob! He found what I was looking for, brought it to my car, and loaded it effortlessly. Exceptional and fast service all around. I highly recommend!

Excellent service and a large variety of products. My husband and I worked with Brett and he was great-- easy going and super knowledgeable. We are renovating an 1880s home and have been able to get great products here that we couldn't find elsewhere to replace and compliment the original moldings, crown etc. So glad we found this place!

I could just say awesome, wow, holly cow. But just one point: go to the business the other businesses go to. Similar to that key store on Porter Sq. Hope this co. is, appreciated for 100+ more years. --- Adding a photo that answers the question: can poplar be stained to look like/blend with maple (I owe that to the boss upfront for being patient)

Cannot speak highly enough of AM. My wife and I came today to look at a bunch of trim samples. Bob helped us and was absolutely amazing to deal with. Usually at these places, I dread getting someone helping us who makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them. Bob was the complete opposite. Friendly, affable, knew all the trims inside and out, had awesome design suggestions.
So much stress was taken off my shoulders in picking the trim for a house I'm flipping. They let you take free samples of the trim which is so generous and their prices are fair. I very, very strongly recommend this business for your trim/moulding needs.

I came here today to try and match some very old molding that we needed for a historic restoration, the 2 guys who assisted me were extremely helpful, patient, very knowledgeable, and true gentleman. They found me exactly what I needed and I left there feeling better about the experience then I did about the molding! But I did feel great about the molding too! Thanks, I will be back, this place is great.

I don't normally write reviews (but depend on them for everything, of course) however I felt compelled to share how awesome this place is. My husband and I bought a historic 1903 home 2 years ago, and finally started to tackle molding. Home Depot wasn't going to cut it. While we used National Lumbar to replace our entire deck, the stock molding was completely limited.
I had to look through an online catalogue for their outsourced Metrie molding and couldn't even get prices unless I knew exactly what I wanted to order. And then I'm not even seeing or touching it before deciding. Then I find out about Andersen. I'm intrigued and bummed it's in Arlington (I'm in Needham) and not open on weekends.
But before the holidays I worked remote and made a trip. I was completely intimidated- I'd never been to a lumbar yard and it's a bit hard to find (I walked into TWO wrong Andersen places first) but finally found the right warehouse. I must have spent two hours there looking at samples, reviewing prices, looking at more samples, comparing more prices, playing around with different profiles.
I bothered Bob and Brett endlessly with any question I could think of and they were so friendly, authentic- I was just having fun being completely absorbed with all the possibilities. I left without a buying a thing and was back a couple weeks later. I played around with more samples and because I couldn't bear to walk out without buying something again, I bought a couple of 8 footers of something random.
I had to compensate this great place! Finally, I went back a week later ready to purchase. At this point, it really felt like home there and it was fun to just watch Bob Brett and the rest of the guys helping everyone (and me) on whatever sized project they had. We finished our first project- a 3 piece crown molding in our dining room- last month and I dragged my husband with me a few days ago to gather up a ton more molding for lots of other rooms.
We both took the afternoon off from work for it. and it did not disappoint. The place delivered on what I told my husband it would be like. Not to mention, with all the moulding we bought, tying it to the roof of our car was a tall order. Bob and Chris went way above and beyond and didn't let us leave until our car was safely packed up. Not because they had to (they don't) but because they just care about the people that visit.
To say that I am a lifetime customer is obvious, but to say that I truly enjoy visiting this place, visiting the people that make it wonderful, and getting endlessly inspired is more accurate.

Incredibly helpful place. We were looking for some oak moldings to frame a large name board that had to match the formal oak design of the room. We came with only a vague idea of what we wanted/needed. The person who helped us (I think his name was Bill) was unbelievably helpful. He patiently showed us many samples, came up with interesting ideas for how to combine moldings into a more complex outline, and had innovative solutions on how we could save money.
He tried out several pieces of each outline that we needed to find the best color match. He wrapped the pieces very carefully and even carried the bundle out to our car! The resulting frame has gotten rave reviews from everyone who's seen the finished product. We never could have done it without Bill's help and advice. A wonderful (and unique) experience.

An amazing place because it offers an awesome selection of hardwoods and moulding profiles that is really hard to find around here. Also all their products and prices are listed online. You can take your time inspecting each species and be choosy about what piece to take. I don't love the pricing though - but it's hard to beat since they have stuff no one else does.

What a pleasant surprise! Although I needed only a small piece of birch to patch a floor, I was given personal attention by a knowledgeable and good-natured staff. Brett was especially helpful in helping me color match the piece of wood I was buying to the wood on the floor. Anderson+McQuaid provides millwork for many large commercial clients but made time for my small order with courtesy and professionalism. An annoying task, of finding a patch for a damaged floor turned into an interesting and fun little adventure. My thanks gentleman.

This place is my life saver almost on a daily basis. All good here.plenty of special moulding options and you can take cute little samples with you to show your client.; Its just the best.cant say enough. I really wish we had one of these closer to Maine for when I work up there but at least there is one of them!

Well, let me tell you, Bob in the stock department went out of his way to accommodate us today. We were trying to match our antique casings in our home and he showed us the stock items, close but not exact. So he continued with another customer and he then told us he would check the special over stock, he did and sure enough he came through. Highly recommend!

My fiance and I went here to buy crown molding. We had a vague idea of what we were looking for but had never bought lumber like this before. We were so fortunate that Bob was so incredibly helpful - he showed us where to see the molding they offered, then brought us to the section where we could pick out what we needed, cut the pieces for us and checked us out quickly. Great customer service and very fair prices! Highly recommend especially for home improvement newbies!

I was amazed at the size of the inventory, the quality of the products, and the friendliness and expertise of the staff at Anderson & McQuaid. There is NO comparison between this place and Home Depot. We found the most amazing, thick, gorgeous beadboard for our kitchen renovation here - so much better than the overpriced, plywood junk sold at Home Depot! Their motto, "where details matter" says it all. Anderson and McQuaid: YOU ROCK!

Review for woodworkers: Overall a positive experience. I'm sure I'll return for small projects, but a few issues: As has been stated, you have to buy the full board. Depending on the scale of your work that can really blow your materials budget. Also the shorts aren't discounted from what I can tell. I paid more for 2 oak shorts than a full clear cherry board.
They also only sell dimensional lumber. I prefer to buy in the rough for several reasons - price being one of them. The selection is probably great for the area, but you'll find more wood and more space to look it over outside the city. I'll probably continue to visit occasionally, but for anything but a small project I'll likely head up to Highland in NH.

I have been building cherry wood furniture and clocks for several years; and will only purchase from Anderson & McQuaid. Yes, there is a bit of effort involved in selection, but you get to do it your self. My only issue is the price. They are not the cheapest, but they are the best. For my needs, it's worth the extra time and money to go there.

Anderson & McQuaid is an amazing resource for pros and for DIY homeowners. There are two main sections of the store: precut moldings and hardwoods/exotic lumber. Their standard moldings are made from poplar which is a relatively inexpensive hardwood that is good if you are planning on painting your molding. The prices are excellent. To give a comparison to the Home Creapo pricing: Colonial casing molding in hardwood poplar was about half the price of the same profile shape in pine at the Depot.
You can dent the pine with your fingernail but you really have to bang a piece of poplar to dent it. They will match custom moldings from your house (for a premium) and they also stock lots of molding in different species. The prices for flat stock of hardwoods from various species are the best prices I have found without driving to New Hampshire or Maine.
I haven't seen any rough cut lumber, so pretty much everything is planed smooth and ready to take a finish. If you don't know much about lumber read up of the differences between lineal footage (length) and board footage (12" x 12" x 1") and the nominal sizes of quarters like 4/4 (4 quarters of an inch rough cut to more like 3/4 of an inch planed down). There are tons of web resources explaining this stuff. The folks that work there are super friendly and helpful and won't eat you alive if you're a newbie.

It's true this place really kicks the crap out of Home Depot. I don't know anything about the exotic hard woods that the other review talks about. Not one aspect of my design would call for such a thing. It's cheap trim and moulding to fill in drafts and mismatched windows and walls. If it were a perfect world of structure and sustainability people would trim their windows, ceilings and lower walls with aloe plants or jolly ranchers, but I guess for now I must use wood.
But this place is the place to get trim. I will shop here while I anxiously awaiting MDF to become more eco-friendly. When this happens I really really hope these guys kick Home Depot's ass once again! But this is all coming from a girl who grew up in a geodesic dome.
