Hardware Distributors was founded in Muskegon, Michigan by Nicholas Workman in 1952. He left Muskegon Hardware and Supply, a thriving wholesale distributor founded in 1921 along with his two brothers John and Martin Workman. Muskegon Hardware was the largest supplier in West Michigan of hardware equipment, distributing to factories, garages, lumber dealers, and hardware dealers across the State. In 1962, Hardware Distributors purchased Wolverine Hardware in Grand Rapids Michigan to expand their distribution market.
