Just like many folks below I wish I to could write a positive review as their product is decent (definitely not the best, but.). However the customer service and support that myself and my customer received has left a lot to be desired. Looking at many of the reviews below the negative ones are all coming from the Colorado area. Maybe Big Sky will realize what they are missing out on by having sub-par customer service/support in a state that does large amounts of SIPs.
Like some of the reviewers below I too experienced that the lead times we have been quoted always took longer than they stated, panels didn't match up to each other, the eves were shorter than what was on the shop drawings, etc.

I recommend Big Sky R-Control Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for single and multifamily construction. Using them on my home renovation project I saved 15% in design and construction costs over conventional framing and %5 in utility costs while expanding the existing house by 3x floor space and 5x the volume. The house is now extremely comfortable w/no drafts and balanced room temperatures.
The indoor air quality is superior and easy to control in this tight house with an HRV. I have been an Energy Services Engineer, Building Performance Specialist, for over 20 years. So when it came time for me to contract my own home expansion, I was able to practice what we show others "Get the envelope right and the rest is easy". We took our early 1900's existing historic home of 1000 ft sq, rebuilt and expanded to make it our dream forever home of 3500 ft sq. raised ceilings and lots of tall windows.
All without losing the historic designation. Using SIPs we saved 15% in initial costs over traditional stick built in design, framing, air barrier, water barrier and insulation materials and labor. It was our contractor's dream using less skilled labor and drop shipped ready made walls. He had it dried in and insulated in less than 2 days. We now have our completely comfortable dream home 3x floor space and 5x the volume with the same 75k Btu furnace and 1.5 ton AC, and 5% less in utilities.
In addition to the 15% savings in envelope design and construction costs, Big Sky SIPs paid further dividends in revision costs. I am the Director of Homeland Security but my wife is the Secretary of the Interior and outranks me when it comes to decisions inside the drywall. Her requests for revised placement of light switches and outlets were easily accommodated with the interior electrical channels that come standard in Big Sky SIPs. Much appreciated. I was attracted to SIPs for the long term savings and the Big Sky R-Control SIPs for the 15% savings in envelope construction costs.

After years of debating using SIPs I gave Big Sky a chance with a custom spec home that we were getting ready to build in Durango, CO. My company has successfully constructed over 50 Energy Star Certified homes since 2011 and we are always looking at more efficient and green methods of construction. Long story short, the panels were delivered two to three months after their promised delivery date.
There were missing panels, mis-cut panels, large openings that were unaccounted for, header materials not supplied and THEN we waited an additional couple of weeks for the final roof panels to show up. Don't believe the hype! Your build will take longer, cost more and be no more energy efficient than a typical stick framed home. After some back and forth debate with them, they had agreed to reimburse us for many of our labor overages due to their shortcomings, but they never delivered on that promise either.
Stay away from Big Sky Insulation, Big Sky R-Control and Mark Yerbic their sales rep for Colorado. There is a reason that stick framing was and still is the most efficient way to build a home. After our final blower door test, our scores were the same or even less efficient than we would have gotten with standard framing and insulation as we have done in the past. I wish I could write a good review for this company because their product is great- its just their customer service is pretty unprofessional and spotty. In our first home build our panels were delayed two months for delivery. On good faith we used them again for our garage/ADU build because the SIP product is really good and creates a tight house and we didn't think they would delay us again.
For build number two we submitted our architectural plans in March and didn't have the panels on site until the last week of July! For a simple project just barley over 1000 sqft this was unacceptable. Our customer service rep was very friendly, but just didn't have any solid reasons as to why our process was so delayed. I don't usually write reviews like this, but I didn't want another home owner builder to waste their valuable time and money waiting around for this company to get their product on site.

My first experience with sips construction was 22 years ago when I was planning a garage / shop / storage building for my business. I was going to use pole barn style construction until my nephew, who worked for Big Sky Insulation (and still does) told me about the R-Control, sips option. My builder and I were skeptical at first but were convinced to give this building method a try.
We were very impressed with the ease of installation and quality of the finished product. The builder commented that he hadn't built walls that straight in a long time because of the declining quality of dimension lumber. There is a learning curve for the builder but the ease of installation actually saved on labor versus frame construction. The additional cost for the material has more than paid for itself in energy savings.
In fact I have subsequently used this product on another garage building and a large addition to my main business building. I always knew that if I was able to have a house built that I would insist on sips construction. I was fortunate enough to do this and have been living in my new sips built house for a year and a half with absolutely no regrets.
I don't recall that Big Sky insulation held up the progress on any of these projects. The architect, builder, and homeowner simply have to understand that you should involve Big Sky Insulation early on in the project so they become part of the team ASAP.

I have worked with Big Sky for over 13 years, during which time Catholic Charities Housing Services has built more than a dozen multifamily housing projects, as well as more than a dozen commercial buildings. Excellent communications throughout the design process and on-site technical assistance has assured the timely and accurate delivery and installation of their SIPs products.
Big Sky is simply the best supplier we work with. Their SIPs come with all window, door, A/C, etc., openings pre-cut to precise tolerance, including compound miters. Use of theirs SIPs accelerates the completion of our projects and provides other desirable benefits, including superior energy performance (LEED Gold), minimal job-site waste, exterior noise sound deadening, exceptional building sealing, etc.
Big Sky isn't perfect, but where there has been a problem, it has been addressed promptly, professionally and resolved. I have the highest regard for their business integrity. With so many successful projects performing beautifully, why would I build with anything else? And why would I buy from anyone else? Great people, great products, great service. Pure and simple.
