Southern Structures, Inc. was started by Hugh A. Stump Jr. as a contracting company building room additions and small projects one at a time. Mr. Stump realized in the early 60's that modular construction could be accomplished faster, with consistent quality, and with less complications than site built construction.
Southern Structures, Inc. is a specialized contracting firm, operating primarily in Florida, from its office in Ocala. Founded in 1961, the company specializes in design and contracting for sectional ( or modular ) commercial and residential buildings. We can assist with design along with counsel to potential buyers as to the most economical and practical means of accomplishing their building goals.
Southern Structures, Inc. is a privately owned Florida corporation, chartered in 1961. We are now headquartered at our manufacturing plant in Ocala, which was opened in 1978. In 1981, we began designs for 1- and 2-story multi-family units, and we now offer a full range of efficiency, 1- and 2-story plans along with single family homes and commercial designs.
Size: Module sizes begin with width of module; this can range from 8' to 16' in 2 foot increments. The usual, and generally the most economical, is 12' or 14'. The advent of new laws allowing over-highway shipment of 16' wide modules may produce some economies in adding square footage without adding additional modules, but has higher cost of transport and some added construction costs.

We can't say enough about Southern Structures. Only a few days after Category 4 Hurricane Irma destroyed our home here in the Florida Keys, Jerry Stump, the owner of Southern Structures, stopped by our house. He was very kind, patient and knowledgeable about all the questions we had. After looking at dozens of homes in the Keys built by Southern Structures and how well they held up after the hurricane, we knew we had to go with them.
We ended up ordering a much smaller home than anticipated due to our insurance providers not reimbursing all of the damages, but Jerry was willing to work with us. He suggested taller ceilings and larger doors and windows to make our smaller home feel much larger. We had a lot of customized requests and changes that were handled very professionally. Jerry even provided expert advice to help us pick out paint colors, fixtures, and other options.
From the time the house was delivered to the property to completion after setting on 13 foot pilings, the Southern Structures install crew explained each step and showed how this house was different from other modular homes. Now after living in the home for a few months, we realize even more how it is much better built than others in our area - it's very insulated and quiet. We really love our home and get lots of compliments on it. Thank you to Jerry and his team for turning a nightmare (losing our old house) into a dream come true.
