Services
Since 1914 The Frank Paxton Lumber Company name has been synonymous with quality, service and value. We are a manufacturer, importer and niche distributor of premium hardwood lumber, millwork and architectural sheet goods. Each of our facilities manufactures custom architectural millwork and mouldings, and our extensive network of industry relationships enables Frank Paxton Lumber Company to import or source wood products worldwide, reflecting the company as an industry leader. As a consultant to our customers, Frank Paxton Lumber Company provides solutions and options in a timely and competitively priced manner.
In our business, one learns quickly that "grade x" from one company can be different from "grade x" from another. The need to compare "apples to apples" is essential. We follow the National Hardwood Lumber and Plywood Grade Standards. It's not a comprehensive grade guide because rules vary depending on the species, but it can be used to compare our products with our competitors.

Checked in at 0645 and was told they should unload around 0745. At 0800 I checked in again and was told it wouldn't be much longer. A daycab driver showed up and they said they had to unload him even though it's first come first unload. When asked why they just said that's how its gonna be. This is after I called last week and let them know I was showing up. YOU DON'T TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS.BAD FOR BUSINESS

Been coming here for years. Only issue is, you need to know exactly what YOU want and can afford before you go. Especially to pre-order it for pick-up to save time having them pull order from warehouse for pick-up. Otherwise you get lost or distracted at all the different kinds of beautiful fancy woods to pick from and all the things you could make (helps if killing time for in-person ordering and pick-up;) A bit pricey, as is everything these days, but you won't find 98% of this wood at a Hardware box store. "This is the place" if you need specialty wood to build furniture & cabinetry.

I have been a regular paxton shopper for a few years. I know how hardwood places work. This last experience with them was quite disappointing. Paxton offers cutting, so long as there is a 4 foot piece remaining for them to restock. Guy told me they "don't sell Partial board feet" and was going to round up every foot of length to the nearest board foot, rounding in their favor.
Would have amounted to an extra $15 dollars for wood I wouldn't be walking out the door with. I left without completing my purchase and went to Austin hardwoods instead even though they're farther away. Not only was the same species more than $2 a bf cheaper there, but I didn't feel nickle and dimed by the people who worked there. They charged me exactly for what I bought. That's how business should work. Probably won't be visiting Paxton again any time soon.

If your a woodworker, you need to get your lumber here. Great selection, great people. No frills, just quality lumber at below big box stores prices. I save so much and get so much more. Most lumber is s3s and sold by the board foot. That means it's surface on 3 sides and you will need to trim to the size you need. If your looking for dimensional lumber you can get trim here but not that's about it. If you have a table saw and want to save money go to Paxtons. Even go just to see all the different species of lumber.

I'm a small time operation but recently purchased enough cherry to complete around 120' of wainscoting, dry bar, base, and custom moldings in my basement including twice that length in cherry crown. The moldings all had noticeable mill marks but very little chip-out. I've never seen mill work come out without the mill marks, so it was exactly what I expected.
They paid close attention to hide almost all sap wood on the back side of the trim if there was any present. The delivery fee was very reasonable and customer service throughout the process has been outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised by the price. It wasn't cheep, but I didn't have to sell my first born to fund the project. Don't expect a cheerleader to great you like you're buying blue jeans at the Gap. Just expect professional help from knowledgeable staff.

For over two years I have been using Paxton Lumber in Denver as the primary wood supplier for my small custom furniture business. They are always helpful, cheerful and glad to have my business, even for small orders. My shop is in Golden, but they are worth the drive and are easy to find once you get there, just off I-70. Great inventory and great service.

I have to agree with Don, My experiences at Paxton have always been great. While my trips to the place on Santa Fe, always made me wonder why you'd hire such a bunch of D-bags to represent your company and offer next to no customer service. Paxton's staff on the other hand is always willing to answer questions or give a board/foot price. I'll also say that I'm a design student, so I'm not buying large quantities of wood, rather a few nice choice boards here and there. I always manage to find something sweet, that makes me leave happy.
