SBI Materials

We had never been to SBI in Windsor before but went there to look at tile/stone options to replace our old redwood deck which had become a haven for rats and increased fire danger. Howard was very helpful in helping us and we quickly moved away from tile to a more natural Travertine stone in silver/white that came in four sizes and addressed the natural/random pattern look we were after.

We also found a perfect gas fired wood stove in a catalog from their suppliers; Eldorado Outdoor. Best of all, Howard recommended a fantastic installer I cannot recommend highly enough. The somewhat oddly named Asapp Pro Hardscape and Masonry. Cesar and his team of excellent professionals not only removed the old deck, but also took out the old 1950s cracked concrete below it prior to pouring/leveling a new concrete foundation for our new Patio.

We could not be happier with the results. Photos are posted in my Yelp review of Asapp Pro. SBI's weakness does not lie in price/value but rather in communication of the status of your materials. In order to get answers/direction I had to pester them and also point out the msrp of the fire bowl we chose was half what they were initially going to charge us. But, the results are outstanding so I recommend SBI with a caveat that you may well find yourself pestering them as well as proactive communication of material status is not their strong suit.

I walked in today, and there were two men behind the counter. The first looked at his watch. The second ignored me. I was the only customer there. I finally started talking, explaining my project and what I needed. I was told to walk outside, "toward the freeway and turn left at the shed." What I needed would range in price $500-$1000. So I walked outside to find literally dozens of stacks, not one labeled with any type of price. I wandered around for about 20 minutes, and nobody offered to help. I left. I try to spend money locally, but they obviously didn't want my business. Disappointed.

At my age, I'm not doing many reviews these days. But SBI deserves a shout-out. Granted, it's hard to make all customers happy and I'm more picky than most. So we were doing a home landscaping project with pavers recently, so I headed to SBI. How often does one company - especially in the construction business - get Sales, Service and Support 'all' right in a given customer experience?

In Sales, Gustavo was so helpful and patient as we selected our materials and planned our project. Hector was on time and efficient with the delivery and precise placement of my materials. And Joe in the yard bent over backwards to help us, both before and after the project with some returns. And finally, despite being in a hectic business - and during COVID - these guys all had super helpful and positive attitudes. Jeff, whatever you're doing, please keep it up. We're glad you're here in Sonoma County. Highest recommendation!

Shout out to Howard Lasker at SBI. Howard hooked up all of the materials for our front landscape project including pavers, mulch, soil and some porcelain tile. Tons of selection! When we needed materials in a pinch they were able to deliver within hours! 100% recommend the folks over at SBI

One of the most pleasant retail / service industry experiences I've had in a while. Fully covid-19 compliant, respectful and helpful from the start. They were able to get me the product I wanted ( road base) at a cheaper price than others had quoted. Delivery was on time. The driver masked up. All went well. I will be spreading the word in my rural neighborhood.

SBI rocks!.and sells rocks, landscaping supplies, pavers, soil and more. We did some work on our back yard this past year and our landscaper made most of the SBI visits - thankfully they were open and operating during the pandemic. We popped over there to make a final decision about the color of our small landscaping rocks. Rocks of various colors, shapes, and sizes are on display outside, making for a safe, easy, and quick visit (we didn't even interact with a human, other than over the phone). Seeing the rocks in person, side-by-side vs in a catalogue helped us quickly make a decision.

On paper we had leaned toward a tan-colored rock but it looked very YELLOW in person and would not have matched our cool/grey aesthetic. We opted for the salt-and-pepper rocks for the win; our landscaper picked them up and installed them in our yard the same day. We've been very happy with the rocks and with the other stones used in our yard project.

Close to home, and knocking out projects. Great place, Big Up Orlando and the yard crew for all the help.

So. I'm a DIY kinda guy but, I'm also a guy who gets an idea but doesn't really know exactly how to do some jobs. Now. landscaping is not that complicated, right? I had this idea to lay some large, flat, "flagstones" on a rustic walkway in our yard. Buy flat rocks. Add dirt. Level. Done. Ooooops! There are a lot of choices out there.

We gonto SBI Landscape Materials in Windsor, CA and we are greeted as we enter by a young lady behind the counter. Veronica gives us some great info to start and then she leads us into the "yard". Veronica is quite knowledgeable and what she didn't know, she admitted and got the info. Veronica was great! We decided on slate. Got a great price and a promised delivery day and time.

The driver was on time, in the early part of the "delivery window". It was early in the morning. He'd driven atleast an hour. It was freezing cold. And the driver had a smile on his face the whole time. He asked where we wanted the stones set. I told him. He responded, "No problem!" What a great attitude. at 7:15am and 38 degrees outside. I'm so impressed by my experience with the "people" of SBI! What a pleasure to deal with. I don't know how many times I'll need SBI but I'll promise you this. when I do, SBI gets the call! #IMAFANOFSBIWINDSORCA

Been customer for nearly 30 years, they are great, helpful and a great place for garden landscaping and building materials. Highly recommended and nice people. Shop local stores is best for community.

You will find a wide inventory of cobblestone and beautiful decorative rock, wallstone, sod and soil amendments, custom blended soils, bark products and so-so-so much more! Service is impeccable. Everyone we have had the pleasure of meeting have been informative and quick to assist our needs. Tip: bring your own gloves for loading supplies.

Lived the material, but becausenof covid was not taking any walkins. Cant blame them. Will go back for my next project for sure

Machinery is left in the middle of the lanes making it difficult to manover around the property and service outside of the office could be friendlier.

This driver was far too close to our vehicle this morning. We were traveling at a good pace with the car in front of us. We honked our horn to get his attention to back off. I couldn't see anything but the grill of his truck through the back window. I thought the pictures I posted would be with this review. They are on their site.

Great selection of materials. Rochelle helped me figure out the best solution for my project, ordered stone in for my special request and was nothing but friendly. Art and Joe went out of their way to show me samples to ensure I got what I needed. SBI Windsor will continue to be my go-to spot for all things stone and yard related, due in no small part to the helpful crew behind the desk and on the forklifts. Kelly

Needed stone for walls & steps, base rock & gravel and SBI had a great selection between their Windsor & Fulton sites. All-star quality materials, delivered on time & placed like a work of art (the delivery guy had been doing it for 15 yrs, I gave him a tip). Yes, the counter service may frustrate some people but if you need that go to Nordstrom. These folks work high pressure 6-day weeks (used to be 7) and they make everything come out perfect. Couldn't be happier, will always go here first from now on.

SBI has has everything you need for your landscape and more. They carry all types of stone, stone veneer, rock, brick, block, wood chips, gravel, dirt, you name it. If they don't have it, they can get it fast. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They also offer delivery services for everything. The drivers are friendly, courteous and professional. I highly recommend SBI

What a great experience I had at SBI. They delivered in a timely fashion & good customer service. The driver is so talented too. That Hispanic man did a great job back up in my tight side yard. Walked in twice (once a week ago) and although there were 4-5 people behind the counter we were completely ignored. Finally the third time I spoke and said hello to everyone behind the desk and only after that did they acknowledge us. Thank goodness for Darian who is a happy customer service oriented person working outside. He needs a promotion! They have lots of good stuff, but customer service is sorely lacking.

I have been in the landscape business for over 30 years and have never experienced such a difunctional material supplier. After waiting a month for my material I was told by SBI that the material was at the manufacturer and had no date for a delivery. To satisfy my customer I drove myself 2 hours each way to pickup the material from the manufacturer. I will never use SBI again. So much for customer service.

Really disappointed to have to write this review. I've been replacing my lawn with xeriscape and needed several boulders along with some other supplies and needed delivery to Ukiah and placement of stones. The day SBI scheduled delivery was 1/10/17, day number two of our 10-year storm and everything was soaked. I called right when they opened wondering if they were still coming and the driver was already on his way. I'll try to make this short - the driver wasn't confident that the forklift they use wouldn't sink in my yard in the wet conditions, so not only was he unwilling to place the stones but I was made to feel somehow personally responsible for the situation.

He said I would have to pay for a tow truck if he got stuck, and acted like I was putting him in harms way. Kept complaining about the rain. What it came down to was both the driver and the guy at the office at SBI wanted to drop my materials including thousand pound boulders off curbside in front of my house and clean their hands of the situation because it was rainy and they weren't able to follow through on their delivery due to weather conditions.

In the end I cancelled my whole order. So that was my experience, not the best. What I can tell you about the business as a whole - I was obsessive about my choices and went to SBI 3 times before settling on materials. What I noticed each time was that I was treated like I was a distraction from some other important big job they were working on. I understand that most of the business a company like this does is with masons but as a homeowner I need more than the usual assistance since I don't know what I want. SBI can't tell you what they have or what it costs.

Their organizational system is terrible and many things aren't labeled. Nobody is going to walk out with you and show you the stones, you're on your own. And when you come back in there won't be a way of describing what you liked because it wasn't marked. In the cases when things were marked it took up to 20 minutes for them to produce a price.

Basically they have no ability to help you stick to a budget or give an estimate on materials. I gave a second star purely because it seemed they had a pretty decent inventory and I think overall as a business they deserve two stars.

After getting multiple quotes for Bluestone tiles from all over the bay area, we went with SBI because they were the low bid. We were told that our stone would be delivered on Wednesday, and after confirming the order and giving them a credit card on the phone for our $8800 order, they called me a few days later at noon on Tuesday, the day before our order was to be delivered, and told us that they were unable to fill our order.

They said that someone else had taken the stone that was in their computer system three days earlier. Jeff, one of the owners with whom I was dealing, said they had 5,500 square feet of the 1.5 inch bluestone in the system when we ordered, but it had all been taken. I had a landscaping crew waiting for a delivery on Wednesday morning, and SBI left me holding the bag, indicating that they wouldn't receive more bluestone to fill my order until the following Friday, and with a landscaping crew waiting, I couldn't afford the delay, which would have been about two weeks beyond when they had told me I would receive it.

I knew I should have gone to Bay Area Bluestone in San Rafael, from the second I spoke with them on the phone. Scott at Bay Area Bluestone was so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I told my wife that I knew they would be the most expensive, and they were. Live and learn.

These guys run a well oiled machine. Picked up 4 yards of redwood bark and it was less than 10 minutes from arriving to departing! Good selection, reasonable prices, and the loaders are pretty good about helping secure the load for you so you don't need to get out of the truck. I'll be back for sure! Prior visit was to have them deliver 10 yards of bark to my house. 2 day leadtime on the delivery and a modest $40 delivery charge. Well worth it compared to renting a truck/trailer and spending my own time to pick it up (plus you don't have to move the bark twice)!

If you like customer service and being treated like a paying customer (which I was), do NOT use this company. From the moment we walked in the door, my son and I got the impression that our business wasn't important. Granted, my order was only around $850., not a big job I know, but for me that is a lot of money. Not only was the counter help lacking, but the day of the delivery, the truck driver actually flipped me off while I was rolling down my car window to offer directions to my home.

I was surprised to see such high reviews by women. I was treated like a dumb female (although I've worked construction for years) and will never do business with this firm again.

Always the best selection of stone on site to choose from. Unlike competitors who have hardly any material in the yard. And the staff is the best in the biz!

Beware.samples are often totally different from what gets delivered. Don't pay until you have selected each stone if you are having custom work done. I ended up with a bad batch from this company and despite their attempts to make things right I still have messed up stone. I had to tell a friend these pieces weren't "seconds". Thank god this is wine country because I'm going to need a drink every time I look at this stone.

I discovered that SBI gives 100% of their Christmas tree sales to Windsor schools, and couldn't resist going here, instead of the dreaded Home Depot. They were friendly as all get-out, and helpful as can be, from trimming, wrapping and tying the tree to the car. The price was just a little higher than HD, but still comparable. I don't have any use for this place other than for purchasing a Christmas tree, so I can't review their products.
