I stopped at the Elkton store today 6/20/2022 looking to buy an outdoor faucet replacement. As I was walking through the store I found fire bricks, the sign said $6.99 for a six pack. The young lady ringing me up had difficulties scanning the fire bricks because they were not coming up on the register so she turned to the older lady next to her and asked her for help.
The older lady said they were $6.99 per brick to which I said "no, the sign says $6.99 for a six pack" as seen on the photo attached. The older lady elevated her voice and replied "it says each, the sign says each". "I must be blind because I cannot see the word each, I only see 6-pack, can you show me where it says each?", I asked. When she couldn't find it, she dismissed it and said "Well, they're $6.99 each".
I commented "Isn't this false advertising then?". The older lady, clearly getting angry said "Is that where you wanna go? Call the police then" and proceeded to call the manager. The manager explained a employee made an error and mislabeled it. I get that, so I asked "Because of your store error, can you honor the printed price for your customer?", to which he replied laughing "Absolutely not!", took the box of bricks and as he started to walk away I asked him "Isn't this false advertising? Shouldn't this be reported?" What he said next is what made me decide writing this review and contact the Better Business Bureau: "Do what you want, see where that gets you" all while smiling, and walked away.
I did not catch his name, but captured the 2 ladies ringing me before I left. Now, I get it an employee "may" have "mistakenly" mislabel the item. I get that. But the way I was treated as a paying customer for calling up their error is unacceptable. It was rude and unprofessional. People here seem to have forgotten we, the customers, make their paycheck possible.
Any other trained manager would have known how to de-escalate a situation like this one, own up to their error and make things right. Now I cannot stop thinking about how many other customers ended up paying more than they thought of for other items that were also "mistakenly" mislabel, but didn't notice. Needless to say I will not be supporting this store in the future and will make sure to let others know of my experience here so they can decide if they want to shop here or not by placing reviews in places like Facebook, Google, etc along with a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau and a letter to the company's CEO. If you also have a complaint, I encourage you fill one out here: https://www.bbb.org/file-a-complaint

Horrible experience ordering a custom door. Outside door was ordered so door swung out instead of in. Associate was not knowledgeable nor did he explain this to me and ordered it anyway. I had to pay 500.00 to get this fixed. I will never use this store again or refer any family members to them for any home improvements. Stick with Lowe's or Home Depot!

My family business and myself personally have been buying from this store for years. All the way from full house lumber, windows and door packages to house hold cleaner. The employees are always knowledgeable and over extend themselves to ask if they can help. This is a reputable family business and I STRONGLY recommend shopping here. (Also a historic Elkton landmark;)

As the owner of a local construction company for over 30 years I can say that American Home & Hardware has the best staff & service that you will ever find. They are locally owned. You money stays in the community when you purchase from American Home. I would five 6 stars if possible. Keep up the good work!

It was great. so easy to buy a bag of mulch. In had just been to another store had to walk from the parking lot near the garden center back to the other end of the huge store in the cold and rain because the end where I parked you couldn't use the doors.then after going inside I had to walk all the way to the back of the store to get to the garden center.
Then found out you could only buy what was inside of the garden center. Even though they had stacks and stacks of mulch outside the store. Then I had to walk back to the front again to get out and then thru the rain and cold back to the far parking lot to get to my car. I'm 83 years old. And I was one upset senior. Them decided to stop at American Home and Hardware. It was like O my gosh why didn't I stop here in the first place.

This business has been around since I can remember. I remember going with my dad as a little girl. They are a small business that make it very convenient for locals to get the supplies they need at a reasonable cost. Especially during these very challenging times, I appreciate the fact they ration the amout of supplies per customer -- it shows they care about their community & they are trying to have supplies when customers need it, & not only worried about making a buck. Thank you, American Home & Hardware.

Very pleased with the service. Dan in plumbing was very helpful in providing the correct product and advice on our recent visit. Previous visit, Dave was instrumental in pointing us in the right direction for the items that we required. The recommendation of the local handyman was spot on too. A great asset to the area!
