We enjoy fabricating custom stone for projects and will accommodate any design possible. Moreover, we have the experience, mindset and machinery to produce custom stone projects and are committed to meeting the demands of architects. The Company started with a small quarry and modest production facility in Fair Haven, Vermont. Over many decades of investing in our business, we now own and operate quarries and mills in the 3 primary slate-producing states: Vermont, New York and Virginia. We specialize in custom projects and are committed to meeting the demands of architects.

Services
Vermont Structural Slate Company is a family owned and operated business established in 1859. For over 150 years we have quarried and fabricated top-quality natural Vermont slates into custom architectural applications. In the last half-century, we have complemented our range of stones by adding highly selected quartzites, marbles, granites, limestone, basalts and sandstones from around the world.
We are specialists in natural slate flooring and other stone flooring. We provide custom cut slate and natural stone flooring to colleges/universities, residential projects and large civic projects. An example of a recent large stone flooring project is our supply of Grafton white marble flooring (wall cladding, cubic treads, etc) to the WTC Oculus in lower Manhattan, designed by Santiago Calatrava. We quarry slate in Vermont and New York, and fabricate custom slate flooring in one of our three fabrication mills.
The stones listed below are widely used in both commercial and residential exterior stone paving applications. Architects specify our slate paving and other stone paving for their natural beauty, performance characteristics, low maintenance, and durability. Many are hard and dense, unaffected by freeze-thaw cycles, naturally slip resistant and unfading.
Our stones are often specified for both interior and exterior stair treads and risers because of their hardness, durability, excellent performance characteristics and natural beauty. And because we produce custom sizes and offer several finishes, architects also appreciate the flexibility our materials afford them in their designs.
