Parton Lumber Company was founded by Verno Parton in 1948, nearly a century after his family first settled in Rutherford, NC and established itself in the wood industry. Three generations since its first customer, Parton Lumber remains a staple of Appalachian lumber production and is now owned and operated by grandsons Furman and Patrick Parton. To stay successful for the past 65+ years, Parton Lumber has had to evolve several times, adapting product offerings and services to meet the ever-changing needs of the wood industry.
Services
Parton Lumber Company has developed a reputation for outstanding customer service and satisfaction by constant attention to customer needs. This service along with quality products has been the major factor in the continued growth of the company. Spacious, modern storage facilities, inventories of all grades and sizes of lumber, and efficient computerized order handling provide quick response to customer orders and on-time delivery.
Parton Lumber is constantly looking for ways to maximize yield of resources so that waste is to a minimum. Logs are sawn with band mills having a very narrow kerf. Slabs are chipped for the paper industry. Sawdust fuels burn efficient boilers. Planer shavings are accumulated and marketed. Bark is ground into mulch for landscape businesses.
Located in the heart of the Appalachian hardwood region, Parton Lumber has ready access to the choice hardwoods and white pine growing on the highest elevations in the Eastern United States. The colder growing climate results in closer annual growth rings that produce finer textured lumber. Parton Lumber is a major producer of high quality Appalachian hardwood, selling rough and surfaced hardwoods to small companies as well as major corporations. Nature provides the climate for some of the world's most beautiful woods.
Parton Lumber Company sells a number kiln-dried species of lumber, both domestically and internationally. Up to 2.8 billion feet of lumber can be stored in our dry kiln facility. This lumber is available in several thicknesses, from 4/4 to 8/4. Poplar also comes in 10/4 and 12/4, or we can surface lumber to a customer's desired thickness.
