Services
We believe the hardwoods of Wisconsin are among the most beautiful woods in the world and accent each other nicely when combined. Most of our wood originates in the urban landscapes of southern Wisconsin. Sawing these logs provides lumber with greater character and amazing size, much of which leave the mill as live edge lumber.
Paul founded The Wood Cycle in 2001 after discovering his hobby was just as rewarding whether the end product would be enjoyed by himself or by others. Paul's woodworking skills are primarily self-taught, but was heavily inspired by several artists and craftsmen in his family; especially by his grandfather, a cabinet maker.
My wife and I bought an older home with the knowledge that we wanted to update the kitchen to include mission style cabinetry. The original kitchen cabinets were poorly laid out and did not make good use of the available space. In addition, the kitchen table and chairs took up most of the space in the small dinette area.
Paul answers questions about the urban wood movement in a recent article in the Oregon Observer; our local paper. Diseased ash trees given new purpose Parnership promotes uses for wood from diseased trees. A partnership between the Madison Parks Division and Wisconsin Urban Wood, which The Wood Cycle is a part of is using urban wood for a purpose.

Stopped by on my way home to Alabama to purchase wood for my husband to use in his shop. I'm not very knowledgeable about how wood is measured, species, etc. The gentleman (forgot his name) who helped me was patient, professional, very knowledgeable, and helped me find a variety of wood to purchase. Their prices, quality, and service are all outstanding.

They even cut the boards to fit in my SUV. Next time I travel back to the area, I'll be stopping by again. If you need ANYTHING custom made, this place does AMAZING work. When I first arrived, I went into their showroom and looked at all the wonderful pieces they've created. The prices are very reasonable and the craftsmanship is outstanding. Thank you for a great shopping experience and the beautiful wood for my husband!

If you are looking for high quality craftsmanship this is the place for you. It will come with a price tag but you'll receive a piece that is durable and will last a lifetime.

If i wanted to be treated like an idiot i'd stay home. Stopped in to buy some wood carving tools. When I asked about spoon knives the clerk said you mean something else. I saaid no spoon knives that are own your website. So he had to look them up. He troied to sell me some curve knives but didn't have a spoon knife. Acted like I was weird for not wanting anything he had. He said all the crackers he knows don't use spoon knives.

Paul and his staff are great! I'm a weekend woodworker so I'm buying in small batches. Paul is always helpful in talking through the project and making suggestions on how to pick quality boards or the best type for the project. Then he'll leave me alone to find what I want. It's also a very cool place. I'm lucky he's nearby, but I'd drive along way to get the service, quality and pricing!
