Older guy at the desk was kind and helpful. The other man working there needs an attitude adjustment. It really turns customers away from your business when you treat people like they're stupid. Other than that, wood is extremely expensive today. $100 for a 4x8 3/4 Baltic Birch. Not their fault though. Supply has taken a hit since Covid.

After buying hardwood from almost every dealer in the area, I can safely say that Vienna Hardwoods has the best prices all around. Keep in mind that it's not like the typical experience where everything is laid out and you can essentially "shop" for what you need. I'll be honest, it's kinda a mess in the store. But as a trade off you get rock bottom prices and service.
Just come in knowing what you need and John (the elderly but kind and knowledgeable owner) will tell you exactly where it is. One of his workers will help you locate it and even cut it to size if necessary. Just come in with the right expectations and you'll come out as a super satisfied customer.

This place is a gem. Great selection of rough cut hardwoods (and softwoods too). I got beautiful curly maple, cherry and walnut here. Plan to get some nice cedar in the coming months to build outdoor furniture. Prices are great. People are great. This is the sort of wood you'll work by hand and enjoy every minute.

I just left this store, Vienna Hardwoods. There was a guy behind the desk that seemed pleasant enough. He asked me what I was looking for. I told him and he had another gentleman help me out. This other gentleman was one of the rudest individuals I've ever encountered. They had what I was looking for but this guy was so rude, I just walked out without buying it.

If you're into woodworking and need a reliable place for good quality wood that won't cost you an arm and a leg, then this is the place for you! John, the owner, is very knowledgeable about the wood products and he knows where every single piece of wood is, which is important because it's a 'little' disorganized and hard to find things on your own.
They have something on sale every week and their prices are hard to beat. They can be busy on weekends, so it's best to be patient. It's better to go on a weekday, if possible to avoid the wait.

John runs a great little lumber store. It is a little disconcerting when you enter - things are piled literally *everywhere* and it is a bit of a mess. But there are some real gems to be found. This isn't the place to go to get 200 board feet of red oak. But if you are looking for some great reclaimed barn wood, or a few pieces of choice figured cherry, this is it.

John the owner has been very helpful and gave us the most competitive price on specialty hardwood for our entire townhouse. Since then, we've come back to him with several special order stair nose pieces. He ensured that the colors match and again, price was competitive. I will be returning for all future hardwood needs. Do suggest if you need anything to give him lead time and follow up as needed since he does all the purchasing, selling, answering calls, billing himself. He always makes every effort to return calls promptly and answer questions.

I found that the store carries a good variety of wood flooring. The price is competitive. John Sliney, the owner, is courteous and very helpful. He explained the difference among the flooring choices for both engineered wood for installation over concrete and factory finished solid 3/4 floor for the remainer of the house while taking into account what I was looking for (no use of off-gassing glues in the making of the engineered product and excellent finishing).

Went here to pick up some wood for a outdoor end table project I'm building. Good selection of high quality wood from different species. The organization is a bit scary, but the nice gentleman behind the desk helped me find what I needed. I bought 2 western red cedar 1x4 planks. $0.95 per linear foot, so it's a bit more pricey than Lowe's, but the boards were straight and were very high quality. You'll save about $2 per board by shopping at Lowe's but the wood there is not good quality and the selection is limited. Plus, I live in Vienna so this place is super convenient. I'll be back for more wood boards in the future! Support local small businesses like this one. Home Depot and Lowe's can't have everything!

If you are a woodworker, this is a great place to go. The wood is not organized so you can easily find what you are looking for, but the owner or his assistant is always there to tell you where stuff is. This place is pure fun. It is a great place to search through, and "treasures" are always there to find. For example, I found some wax covered logs that are actually spindles of wood that was used to make veneers until the spindle got too small for the machine.
This pieces are great for turning or for carving, and many are of high quality woods. The last one I got turned out to be beautifully figured birds eye maple. While the wood is not well organized, the prices are as good as you will get, and usually better. Sometimes when I am looking for a project to do, I go to Vienna Hardwood and just wander through. There are always a number of pieces that give me ideas for things to make. Looking through the lumber at Vienna Hardwood is always an enjoyable experience.

I have not been in some time -- maybe a year or two. As of that time, selection was fair to good, prices were good to excellent. Service is generally decent but the organization scheme leaves something to be desired. Stuff is piled and stacked in any available crevice and generally species are only loosely organized in certain areas. However, quality in many species is often quite good and prices are in some cases vastly better than competitors'. Seek out their monthly specials and stock up. A favorite lumber hot spot, but sadly it's a little far for me to drive on a whim.
