After graduating from Utah State University with a degree in Business Administration, Alan decided that Salt Lake City needed a better option for handcrafted, locally made plantation shutters and thus Wasatch Shutter Design was born in 1996. He has worked to build a company that focuses on a superior product as well as superior customer service.
Wasatch Shutter Design was founded in 1996 by owner Alan Clegg, a craftsman, who saw that there was a need in Utah for a skilled company who could build a custom shutter that operated better, lasted longer and reflected an attention to detail. Since the beginning, Wasatch shutter has been committed to producing custom home products, offering significant worth and displaying fine wood craftsmanship as well as contributing to the local economy.
With many styles to choose from, there are multiple shutter options to fit your home's style and your budget. We have a wide variety of plantation shutter products ranging from durable synthetic shutters to fine hardwood shutters. We also craft shutters to fix unIque shapes such as arches, circle windows and doors.
Basswood is our best selling plantation shutter product. Basswood shutters are light weight, can be painted or stained, are warp-resistant and made from a sustainable resource. Basswood shutters can be painted or stained any color. We have our standard selection of paints and stains to choose from or you can also request a custom color.

From beginning to end my experience with Wasatch Shutter was remarkable. My sales person was very prompt, professional, and efficient, and my installer was the same. They both answered any questions I had and Bastian my installer explained everything I needed to know about caring for my new blinds, as well as made sure that I knew I could call not only my sales person but the company if I were to ever have any problems.

Had a great experience with Wasatch shutters. Dennis came out and did the initial measurement and provided a quote on the spot. There was no pressure but he was very professional and thorough. When we called him to confirm we would like to go with Wasatch shutters he was very pleasant and said he would come back out to our home and do a final measure on the windows to be sure everything would be correct.
Upon his final measurement he gave us a date that the installation would take place on. The day before the date of the installation we received a call from Wasatch office to confirm that they would be there and approximately the time of day they would be there. The two young men who came out to do the installations were very thorough and prepared, they had all of the tools and hardware needed for a professional installation.
They answered all of my questions and took time to show me details about the installation that I was asking about they were very good at squaring the shutters inside of the existing window frames and did an exceptional job in the installation. They even remove their shoes upon entering my house I had never even asked them to do so. The cleanup was spotless and Skyler went over complete operation and instruction. I will not hesitate to use Wasatch again. Thank you to the entire team that made this an easy decision and effortless installation.

Christine came to my PC home and provided me with a quote for motorized roller shades. Although her bid was very competitive, and I had total confidence in working with her and Wasatch Shutter, she was not able to obtain the fabric color I wanted. We love our new shutters! We specially want to thank Skyler and his associate who came to do the install. Skyler was very professional and personable. He spent a lot of extra time making sure our shutters fit perfectly. They even helped me move a piece of furniture as we had just returned from the hospital from an accident that left my husband immobile and unable to move it. Thanks so much!

I could not be happier with my shutters! They look flawless and every single person at Wasatch was so kind and easy to work with. Blake who measured my windows and helped me decide what I wanted was so great. The installers Skyler and Parker were very professional and did such a beautiful job. They took their time making sure every single detail was spot on PERFECT while still being quick and effective!
They were very friendly and cleaned up my home perfectly. I felt very taken care of not only by them but also Diane and Kimberly who set up my appointments and answered all my questions. They were so sweet and I can't wait to have my shades installed next! The quality does not compare to anything else I've seen. These guys are the best! I will start by saying I am beyond happy with my shutters. I had three companies come to my home to provide us a quote and talk about the design options and cost. I decided to go with Wasatch Shutters after hearing lots of great reviews from others in my neighborhood, and because they seemed to provide the highest quality product. I was able to go to the design room and check out some of their samples as well.
I was lucky enough to bump into the owner, Alan, while I was there. He was such a great guy and I knew after meeting him I would be able to trust his company doing a great job in my home. I then had the pleasure of meeting Russ (who works on the shutter designs), who was absolutely amazing. I have some windows that were tricky due to the size and the window opening mechanism, and he was able to come up with solutions that I was super excited about and he worked on it for hours to make it perfect.
He really listened to everything I wanted and was able to make it happen. The install team also deserves a shout out, they were awesome. They were very professional and respectful and did a fantastic job. They cleaned up after themselves, they were careful working around everything in my house, the windows look perfect and honestly the team was just super impressive.
I couldn't be happier. They did a custom paint match to go with the trim work we have in our home and it is a perfect match. I walk around my house feeling so happy with how great it looks with the addition of these shutters! Such an upgrade! I don't typically write reviews, but felt I had to say how happy I am with this company. I would recommend them to anyone.

I'm beyond impressed and pleased with my experience with Wasatch Shutter Design. Our salesperson, Christine, gave us all the information we needed in order to make a good, informed decision, as well as answered all my questions.and I had a lot! They installed blinds throughout our entire main floor, and then installed white country-style shutters in our master bedroom that look absolutely amazing.
The production time was very fast, and the installation guys who came out were all extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I've already recommended them to a friend who also used them for her shutters. The prices are extremely competitive also. Will be using again when we finish the basement, for sure!

I'm absolutely blown away by the professionalism and quality of Wasatch Shutter Design! Not only was the estimate process upfront, honest, and clear, but my custom shutters were manufactured and ready for installation exactly as per the timeframe given, which is a night and day difference from another company I used for a previous home. There were no hidden fees in the contract, 50% of cost was to be paid at order placement, with the final 50% due at time of installation.
The installation crew was courteous, friendly, and efficient -- they completed installation of 26 shutter panels + frames in my house in less than 3 hours! I would happily recommend Wasatch Shutter Design to anyone needing custom solid wood shutters.

Just had my shutters installed and they are perfect! Everyone I worked with was very nice and professional from the measurer to the very nice installers. They left the areas cleaner than they found it. They were about the best price I found and the experience couldn't have been any better. Thank you! I would highly recommend

From finding their website on the Internet, to making the appointment, to meeting with the professional sales staff and management, through the entire process of building our new shutters and having them installed, Wasatch Shutter and Design Company were quintessential professionals. Not only were all the people involved first-rate and professional, the finished product is simply the best.
If I was only rating the new shutters and window treatments we had put in, they would get five stars plus. But the people were what made the whole project special. They took their time, measured twice, made the appointment, showed up on time, did a wonderful job and left the area cleaner than they found it! We could not be more thrilled with the way our shutters came out, I would recommend Wasatch Shutter to anybody who asks. If you want the best, call the best!

MAKE SURE TO CONFIRM APPOINTMENT. It took 4 weeks to get an appointment to have my shutter installation, so you could imagine my suprise when the shutters did not show up. I called the receptionist and asked if the installers were coming and she looked up my name and then put me on hold(not a good sign). She came back and told me that I was not scheduled at all.
I was very upset at the thought that the shutters had been sitting in their store/warehouse for who knowS how long, with my $1000.00 deposit attached to them, and not one person there realized that there was no installation date assigned to those shutters, but who cares as long as they get their money. Nancy said she will see what she can do and call me back.
She called me back in about 10 minutes and said that they can come between 2-4pm. I thought this was unacceptable, my appointment was for 9am, I had plans for the day (made 4 weeks ago) that were impossible to flip around---Nancy did not care. I asked if I could speak to the owner, and she said that she would speak to the owner for me, of course I never heard from the owner. Nancy said to give her a break, she is only human and she made a mistake.
She was extremely defensive. Horrible customer service. I used to be a waitress and if I screwed up and customers were unhappy I brought the manager over to talk to them. Needless to say, I will never use this company again. I have a sister that wants to get shutters installed too, and she will now not use this company. I also have many friends. Shutters look good, there is a problem with one of the blinds, but I do not want to even deal with this company again, so I am going to ignore it unless it gets really bad.
