The people in their paint department are either extremely under trained or they are spending their time with the caulking gun up their nose. I was looking for an oil based top coat to cover an oil based primer (sold to me by HPM) for my wood fence. The woman at their Kamuela paint counter insisted that they no longer carry oil based paint. When I showed her two cans of oil paint on their shelf she got an insulted look on her face and started stuttering some BS.

I then went to the Hilo store (their head office) where Michael V. assured me the oil based paint he took from the shelf was what was needed in this application after I gave him a written copy detailing the paint used as a primer. The paint he sold us is used exclusively for metal applications. USELESS INDIVIDUAL! If all HPM can hire are warm bodies then they should post this information in a conspicuous location so customers can lower their expectations. So far I have spent $30.00 on gas traveling to their locations only to find two remedial achievers at the most expensive building supply stores on the island.

Very helpful and friendly employees. They greet you at the door, they ask if you need help when they see you wondering around clueless unlike some other stores which I won't mention because I don't like to throw other business under the bus. HOMEDEPOT! go check them out. Cant beat the customer service. Especially in Hilo. Top of line business.

Good folks to work with. If they wrap the drywall to protect it from the rain on the way home/job. Make sure you ask them not to put the finish side down. It gets chewed up a bit.

Great areal with big parking lot. Different pick-up locations. Helpfully staff at Customer Service and Home Planning Center located in another building.

A little pricey on some items, but people are friendly and helpful.

I came to find a competent supplier for our new home build. We built ground-up over this summer. Folks I dealt with; Janel, Merrillyn, Kapua, all very savvy and super helpful. We went over budget big time with the price hikes this summer but price and service always went in favor of HPM. Highly recommend.

Bought this bathroom fixture 5 years ago when I was building my HPM home (the original fixture I had planned for with the package was no longer available, so Im not sure why it was even offered) and this was the replacement that was recommended. Look at all that rusting! Quality product? Doubt it!

HPM is awesome! The store is so clean and organized. Always get someone willing to help you. They even offered to wrap up my sheet rock so it wouldn't get wet! Feel better supporting a locally owned business. 10/10 recommend from beginners to pros

The people inside were nice. I'll still go back. Warning: Marketing is a big lie. I got a "Welcome to the neighborhood" coupon in the mail with bold letters stating "Anything" I could fit in a bucket was 10% off. It was not, 75% of the stuff was already on a discount. I'm sure there was fine print stating stuff already on discount wasn't "anything", but for a meager 10% I thought I could trust the advertisement without lawyering it out.

In the future I'll take my chances more with the Chinese goods from Amazon that I can trust more than HPM. The $15 they saved on me at the cost of my trust wasn't worth it in my eyes.

They rarely answer their phones. How many times I tried to get a price quote and no one answers. Because of it I just go to Homedepot

Great service. had a quick small repair at a rental had everything i needed HPM is the place not crowded very safe atmosphere with all protection in place in store for the covid 19

1 star because of 2 mistakes with the same clerk. 1) I called in advance to see if they sold Hardie panel siding and if they could cut it down so I could fit it in my car. The girl that answered the phone her name was Ashley she told me yes we can. So I was like great! I'll head down there right now. When I got there I was instructed to go to back to pick it up.

I went to the back the person said we can't cut it they need a special blade. I told them I just called and Ashley told me that they do but they don't. So I've wasted my gas and time heading down there. 2) I walked in headed to the clerk to ask questions about a purchase. Quickly I recognized the girls name tag and I was like this is the girl that made the mistake the last time! so I decided to make what I am looking for very clear so no mistakes this time because it had to be ordered. Calmly I offered to show pictures, I drew it on a piece of paper. Anyways. apparently I had to have it ordered so she told me 2-3wks it will come in. Waited till the 4th week thinking they maybe backed up due to the pandemic. Called to check if my order had come in because I hadn't heard anything.

The girl says my order is in and can pick it up. So went down there to pick it up and it was the wrong merchandise. I don't what else to do. I explained it, I drew it on a piece of paper and even showed her a picture and it was still wrong! This store is now absolute last resort! I would recommend going else where before going here.

Great place for all of your hardware needs. Nice open store with plenty of isle space. The employees are very friendly and helpful! I highly recommend HPM for any of your needs from supples to keys being made. Much better store than the "big store" with the brand name. Shop here and shop local!

We love thIs place for the high quality goods and wares. Fair prices and great service. Could use a bit more tidying up, but if that is the only negative so far.

Always shop Local first! Great store & staff. Wally Iopa is just fantastic and has helped us with our door replacement issues. We bought our PCA Screen Doors here, check them out. Much better in our Hawaii environment than other types of screen doors & security doors (no rust!) with a good selection of styles & colors. Mahalo HPM!

Went to HPM to pickup to pickup a cartridge for my bathroom. Danny in plumbing was awesome and showed me what I needed. He walked over from the warehouse area to show me what I needed. The customer service I experienced was awesome! We only hear negative things and I just wanted to make sure people who do their job right get acknowledged. Danny was awesome and we need more people like him.

When I walked in the girls at the desk in the back of the store were friendly and asked if I needed help. I would have given HPM a five star but the cashier who helped me needed to learn about customer service. Her name started with a K. Other then that I was very happy with my experience. Thank you Danny for your help!

Floor plans rock Prefab walls are awesome Service was stellar Communication was spot on. If they didn't have the item they would let me know or they would be trying to find the item to fulfill the order. For residential and commercial building this is my go to place. Aloha

I will never shop at h.p.m ever again bought a tool from here went home and it was a used tool in the box went to take it back and was accused of being the one to switch it out.they didnt give me a refund or a new tool i even asked for a in store gift card.the manager that work on sunday 3/4/18 told me all sales final no refund so deal with it. never ever ever will i spend my money in this store again.

Worthless. I went in to buy a Lanai and slider. She complained that my slider should be 5' high because I told her 6' by 80. I'm not a pro. I explained that to her but her attitude made me go to the big box and I'll never be back. I've tried to hiy local several times but will never be back.

We were greeted with a smile and taken to little red ant bait which we came in to get, by Lei, an employee, She was was very helpful and gave us tips on how to use the product. We looked around the store full of useful merchandise and bought a few more items. Great place with easy parking.

Best place for anything and everything building. The staff in the lumberyard is exceptionally helpful and very knowledgeable. Contractor sales is amazing and know what they're doing. Retail staff is amazing. Everyone is amazing.

Not the best place to buy things like faucets, lighting, or even paint. The selection is pretty sad. They seem to have great floor plan options. The service is a little lacking.

First posting for the start of our home building project on the big isle. HPM's website is well built and easy to use. We plan on building a home using a building package from HPM. We received a quick email response from them after making contact via HPM website messaging. 4 Stars for now because I haven't found any pricing for the home packages on their website. HPM is considered the Big Island's go to building supplier and builder.

Their company is employee owned and also comes with decades of service and experience. We'll update this post as we continue with the build. We are looking forward to working with HPM.

I just called HPM for my first times to see if they had a carport the gentleman named Jeffrey answer the phone and was willing to pull the parts and pieces and get it ready for me for next day pick up I recommend this for all your building material needs

9/4/10: Stopped in for an angle stop (to install our diaper sprayer), found what we needed with ease. This isn't your Home Depot with shelves of inventory in disarray, find stuff with ease! Only bummer is that hours aren't as long as HD so plan accordingly! If you need big or commercial stuff, head straight for the back warehouse, all kine plumbing electrical and hardware back there. Mostly home improvement stuffs up front.
