This finely hand carved wooden Eagle was gifted to Monteath by one of our customers and is proudly displayed above the store office. 1880 - As construction activity increased late in the century, foreign and domestic sawmills provided an abundance of fine African and West Indian Mahogany and Brazilian Rosewood along with American Walnut, Cherry and Oak.
Curved Mouldings can be made to order in solid wood or flexible resin to precisely match our stock profiles. Custom Mouldings can be made to order to match any profile. A scaled drawing, or a sample along with the quantity desired and the specie of lumber is all that is needed to receive a price quotation.
All lumber is offered for sale on a Board Foot Bd. Ft. or BF Basis. This unit of measure uses rough sawn thickness, in 1/4 increments, prior to any machining. Minimum rough thickness is 4/4 or 1. The lumber listed below only represents what is currently stocked. We also handle many other species for a wide variety of customers and would be glad to quote your needs on any other type of lumber. For the chart to the right, this lumber has been dressed and ripped oversize and then run through the moulders to assure a straight flat product.
IPE (pronounced ee-pay) is absolutely the best decking material commercially available. IPE's durability, natural resistance to decay and strength make it an excellent material choice for decking and outdoor furniture. This premium lumber product was formerly available to only architects and commercial builders, and is relatively new to the mainstream deck building market. We are so confident that you will like IPE, we will give you a free sample and information packet, including our direct mill pricing.

Incredible wood selection and extremely knowledgeable staff! Their service was absolutely perfect, better than any other lumber yard that I've been to. Despite me being a hobbiest, they treated me with complete respect and kindness. I can't be more thankful to have found you guys! I will definitely be back :

I could not say enough positive things about this place. The wood selection is fantastic, the pricing is competitive if not better than other places. But the thing that makes this worth going to is the staff. They're helpful, friendly, and most importantly not arrogant. Special shout out to Eddie and jayson who went above and beyond to help me with my upcoming project. Look forward to coming back soon.

Best lumberyard anywhere near central New Jersey. They have an insane amount of species including exotics (Zebrawood, Purpleheart, etc). I have purchased multiple cedar boards which were perfect for my humidors. They milled the lumber in house (I needed to resaw and I don't own a band saw). I have purchased several sheets of 3/4 birch plywood for a walk in closet build and the plywood was a much higher quality than anything you'll get at any big box store.
Their selection of molding is also extensive. I bought crown molding for my mother's house that looked amazing after installing it in her living room. They also deliver which is a big help since I don't own anything that'll allow me to haul the large sheets of plywood. Highly recommended.

I'm a local architect with a passion for heartfelt craftsmanship and some (but very little) rough carpentry experience. I have been design-building my own home and when my stair maker became less than responsive I decided to make my own stairs and that's when I came across this jem of a supplier. Even though I had very little experience in buying finish-grade lumber, the guys at Monteath made me feel very welcomed, helped me decide on issues and gave me advice as needed.
I could not be happier with their service and product. It's obvious that the guys wokring here love wood and they'll have you loving it also. Do not hesitate to walk in and look around. I highly recomend Moneath if you're a professional as well as a homeowner. 5 stars.

I went here recently based on the recommendation from a friend. I have gotten back into woodworking after a long hiatus. I would purchase my lumber from a box store or pay steep prices from online stores to receive not available to me locally desired lumber. This store is tucked back in a business area which is unfortunate because they absolutely deserve to have more exposure.
From when I walked in until I left (2 hours later) I was seriously impressed with the staff and product. They answered all my questions as well as any and every other customers that came in. Staff really seemed to care about helping the customers. There is an incredible amount of lumber and selection here. Prices are either board or linear foot. You can measure and calculate prices without and intimidation or condenscention from staff. Prices were better than other yards I had contacted. They also offer other services like cutting, ripping, planing, etc. and are not overpriced. I cannot wait to go back.

By far the best lumber yard I've been to in the state. Very welcoming and friendly staff, they really go above and beyond. I stopped in one time when I was in the area and I only needed a couple small boards, and they still treated me as a valued customer as if I've been doing business with them forever. I've been to other lumber yards where I get the impression that I'm wasting their time with small, hobbyist orders and felt rushed.
Not here at all. Since then, I've visited a few other times and the experience has always been wonderful. They have a full selection of North American hardwood, both rough and S4S as well as exotics. They also have a nice selection of moldings, which I haven't had the need to purchase yet but when I do I will definitely stop here first. The quality of the lumber is top notch and the prices are fair. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

They have the best supply of quality wood in the area. They can supply the biggest of projects, but always make time for this small time artist in sourcing the perfect pieces of exotic wood for my projects. In fact I'm heading there today! In the photos are examples of the wenge, Bolivian rosewood and wavy maple I picked up last time. Absolutely beautiful
