In the mid 1960's concerned citizens of Northern Michigan recognized a need for vocational services for individuals with disabilities in their community. In 1968 these citizens established North Eastern Michigan Rehabilitation Opportunity Center, Inc. (NEMROC), and hired their first Executive Director.
NEMROC is able to produce and provide three unique product categories. NEMROC Hardwoods on average produces 5.5 million board feet per year, with 5.25 million being kiln dried. NEMROC Vinyls produces custom made floor mats of varying size and thickness to meet all needs. NEMROC Woodcrafts has a wide variety of products for businesses, families, schools, and government agencies.
NEMROC has been providing Supported Employment services for people with disabilities for over 20 years. The program is successful as the needs and skills of the participant are carefully matched to the job site. Long term assistance is provided so that everyone involved has a positive experience. Financial support is provided through a partnership with Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health.
The Quality Work Environment (QWE) Initiative was a collaborative effort with the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled, NIB and NISH. The initiative will enable AbilityOne nonprofit agencies to strengthen their commitment to enhance daily work experiences and develop future growth opportunities for persons who are blind or have other significant disabilities.

NEMROC is a great asset to the community. Not only are they devoted to employing and training those of all abilities, but they create a wonderful array of products. Between their bird/bee/butterly house kits, cutting boards, pallet signs, and wood crates, I'm never disappointed with their products. They are also are extremely community-oriented and work with a variety of local businesses to make sure they get the product they envisioned.
