Located in South Plainfield, New Jersey, Pfingst & Company, Inc. was founded by Adolph Pfingst in 1905, when it started importing and distributing BUSCH dental burs. Otto Busch, a co-founder of German bur manufacturer Busch & Company, had asked his brother-in-law, Adolph Pfingst, to introduce Busch dental burs to the North American market. Five generations later, Pfingst & Company is known for delivering the industry's most respected and advanced tools, instruments, and related products for jewelers, dentists, and hobbyists.

Busch & Company was set up in Dusseldorf, Germany, in 1905 by Ernst and Otto Busch. Their primary focus was to manufacture dental burs and thereby boost the dental field by providing better dental instruments. In 1908, they purchased and moved to an abandoned ironworks with water power in the village of Engelskirchen.

Since 1918, HORICO, Hopf, Ringleb & Co. GmbH & Cie., has been producing galvanically bonded dental abrasive instruments. After visiting his dentist, Paul Hopf, chief engineer, developed a separating strip made of steel, improving upon the conventional dental separating strips made of sandpaper that his dentist was using.
