Great place to buy wood for cabinetry and wood projects. Large selection of dimensional hard and soft woods. If you want to wander about and collect your wood, they will leave you alone. If you need some help, just ask and they are very helpful. Don't go there for framing lumber, this is place is for the furniture and cabinet woods.

What a great spot for Lumber! Try to get Brian as your sales guy, he's super knowledgeable and a hoot! Thank you Brian for all your help.

The guys there are very helpful and knowledgeable. Thier material is above average and competitively priced. That is what keeps me coming back.

My favorite place in town to buy hardwoods. Go to the racks, pick your boards, then call the office phone number and someone will come out to measure and take your credit card. They calculate the bill and finish the charges while you load. I've checked their measurement calculations before, and they're spot on.

I was excited to make a trip over to Fine Lumber after hearing nothing but great things about them the past few months! I make custom cutting and charcuterie boards so being able to find larger dimensional hardwood slabs is a huge benefit to me! Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed from the very first moment I walked in. The office is closed so to the warehouse I went.

I walked in and saw a couple of guys talking. I waited there for a couple of minutes hoping to be acknowledged but.it didn't happen. I interrupted and asked if they knew anyone that could help me. The guy on the left holding some papers said he could but he was in the middle of something. I know that BS'ing with someone is absolutely something but really?!?

He then proceeded to give me a quick rundown on the layout of the warehouse like he was actually annoyed that I asked. I walked in between the guys to go to the side where the dimensional lumber was and all I got from the guy that worked there (or whoever he was) was a constant stank eye as I walked by. I went in to see what I could find but the previous interaction was really bugging me.

I decided that I'm not giving any money to a place that treats people like that.period! I'm not sure if this is the norm and hell maybe the guy was having a bad day but if so he really needs to learn to keep that crap at home.

Unfortunately, we can't recommend this place. Their warehouse is very dark, making it impossible to hand select lumber. We left with 4 pieces of very expensive white oak (almost $800 total) to get home and realize one piece is very likely red oak and the other 3 have very inconsistent markings. One even has damage on one side. They will not own up to their lack of quality control or even consider a reasonable exchange. Pay attention to the reviews and choose a place with better customer service! I would recommend driving to Alamo or Allen and Allen in San Antonio.

Fine Lumber picked, planed, and rough sized all of the wood I needed to rebuild a large piece of furniture to display my large HDTV in. Yeah. The wife wasn't about to toss everything just to accommodate my TV watching. Frankly I could do everything but planing the wood to thickness, but Fine Lumber's set-up charges are economical enough that I don't bother.

The wood was all top quality and well worth it. Yes, I do make final dimensioning cuts, but that's typically one edge, sometimes two. I wish I had more occasion to use them, but I only do woodworking as the need strikes me (or the wife tells me).

'Ive been a FIne lumber regular for a few years now, and have purchased half a dozen different hardwood species and a fair quantity of Baltic Birch plywood. Not professional quantities -- I'm a hobby woodworker. But I've nearly always had superior service and left happy with what I bought. I especially like that you can go through the hardwood yourself and pick out pieces that you choose, and eliminate any bummers.

And since I have a limited capability to haul, they're happy to cut things to sizes that fit in my Jeep. My latest purchase was today, a 5X5 piece of Baltic Birch. The price was breathtaking but not because of FIne, but rather the shortage of the stuff on the market and resultant inflation. Their prices are competitive and they don't sell junk.

Awesome place and crew. They got my curled butcher block back to straight and were on time for completion and easy to work with. Great group of people. I will buy from them for my next project.

Can't say enough good things about this lumber shop. They helped us select, cut, and mill some beautiful wide white oak planks for shelves in our kitchen. We will definitely use Fine Lumber again!

I'm a carpenter and do mostly small custom work. Having the ability to chose the pieces of wood for my projects is key to a successful outcome. Some yards in town do not give the option to chose your lumber. I know that's life during Covid. Fine Lumber has a great selection in milled and unmilled lumber. Service is good and the salesmen are very helpful. Coming here you have to keep in mind this isn't a retail store with scanners and bar codes. So sit back and enjoy your time here. Wander about and think of possibilities of what you can build next.

I wanted to find some wood for shelving. I knew the style I had in mind, but didn't know exactly what I was looking for. After standing around for nearly 40 minutes, I asked 3 people for help and only one guy ended up "helping me", by repeatedly saying, "I don't know." to my questions. I asked if he could help me load the wood as I have a bad back and knee from my time in the navy.

He said, "Yeah." and just walked away. It was some younger guy with headphones in. After tearing up my back loading wood, I stood around for another 15 minutes before being told to call a phone number to get someone to check me out. A guy did and was able to cut the boards down to the size I wanted. I asked if the boards could be planed down on a jointer to which he said, "We're four weeks out on that." Which is ridiculous as it would've only taken a few minutes for my 4 boards.

I think he just wanted me to leave. I left but am now fairly unsatisfied with the way my shelves turned out. I'm considering disputing the purchase on my credit card because I'm so unhappy with their product. What a horrible shopping experience and waste of over $200.

Don't be like me and ignore the reviews that talk about their bad customer service. Don't expect that you'll have a positive interaction or be treated with kindness. Although Fine Lumber & Plywood is open to the public they truly do not act as if they want the business of the novice. I needed to purchase wood for shelving and I wanted something a little higher quality than what you can purchase at Lowe's/Home Depot.

I had my measurements and knew I wanted wood that I could stain and cut myself, I had assumed that they would be able to direct me from there. I did buy a piece of wood but only because I was SUPER uncomfortable and wanted to the experience to end. I wandered aimlessly for about 10 minutes, there were salesmen helping other people but no one spoke to me, not even to say "Welcome we'll be right with you." When someone did finally speak to me he was condescending and implied that I was on a budget despite the fact that I hadn't said anything at all in regards to pricing. He spoke to me with a tone of annoyance acting as if he had explained something when he hadn't. I won't return and regret the $85 I did spend.

Really like this place and the employees. Every time I go, I have so many questions and they never flinch. They are always patient and explain and teach me new things. I'm new to woodworking, so their guidance has been valuable and has inspired me to continue. The products are great. I buy birch plywood regularly from them, it's much better quality than you get at home depot for a third of the price. They also have a huge selection of General Finishes stains.

Great service and knowledgeable staff. Recently did a special order of a couple sheets of 1 Baltic Birch, 2 day turnaround. Can't ask for better service. Been shopping here since ~2008, will continue to do so. Quality of the lumber far exceeds what I can get anywhere else. Good selection of lumber and moldings in stock.

Eric Timmerman was great to deal with. Had a pretty simple order and they processed it with no fuss. I'll definitely use their services again.

For a place that has a giant stone with some BS about customer service on it I would have expected much better. I walked in as the only customer with four service folks and some tall guy comes from the back of the room, I tell him this is my first time at a place like this and that I'm looking for some wood for a project. He directs me outside and that's it.

Here is the problem: 1. If somone tells you it's their first time buying lumber at anything other than a Home Depot or Lowe's that probably means they need some help beyond "go out there and pick what you want and come back and we'll give a price". Maybe someone WHO OBVIOUSLY IS NOT BUSY THERE ARE 4 OF YOU SITTING AROUND could walk me out there, which I witnessed other sales people doing, and show a little interest in what kind of project I'm working on. 2.

What service do you offer beyond selling wood? Do you cut it, plane it, sand it? 3. YOU HAVE A GIANT ROCK AT YOUR FRONT DOOR THAT SAYS YOU CARE MORE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE than you actually do obviously. So congratulations. You will not have my business, but obviously you don't care anyway.

Love this place! Today was my first time here, and I will be back plenty more. They have a big selection of regular and exotic woods in various sizes and price rangers. Not just for builders! I'm doing a woodworking project and they were nice enough to cut it into all kinds of sizes that the big box stores wouldn't do. And the staff were all very friendly, even though I didn't know what I was looking for. They didn't make me feel out of place even though I'm not a contractor and was clueless. Highly recommend this place for any wood needs!

This is the best place if you need wood for some custom project. I had not been there since years ago, back then the person I talked to was really helpful and we found what I needed for my project. I went there today to see if they had some cocobolo and some other woods. Got there when they were about to close, they were closing their doors when I was upstairs looking at some wood, and still they didn't ask me to leave, just asked me if I needed any help bringing wood down. It's great that they let public buy small amounts of wood, and not only that, you select it yourself, they can cut it for you if you need, and they have very reasonable prices for all that. Will be back in a few days with more time.

We have been working with Peter and the team at Fine Lumber for years and could not be more satisfied. They have great products and are our go-to when it comes to new lumber.

Bummer, they have a big stone out front that says customer service is the basis of their foundation. The guy who tried to help me was brand new and no had no idea about anything. I don't think this place is for the novice woodworker. Was just trying to find a board 15 x 23 for a small project and got no help.

I had a really bad experience at Brazos forest products and was looking for a new supplier. Im glad I tried these guys. I've known about them for years, but the location was too far away for me to try them. My mistake. Give these guys a shot. I was in and out of there in a few minutes. The lumber was some of the best i've seen in awhile, and I see a lot of materials.

The salesman was very helpful and the price was spot on. It was totally worth the drive. I plan on opening an account here and using them on a regular basis. Five stars all the way!

I was a little intimidated to start calling around Austin lumber yards for help with my small DIY project (kitchen shelving) but Eric was so nice via email and answered all my questions promptly! I purchased four planks of walnut for a very reasonable cost and they cut them to the size I needed and planed them nicely. All I needed to do was a light sanding, oil them up, seal them, and now I have these beautiful kitchen shelves that look custom at a fraction of the cost. I'll definitely be back for more of my projects!

I met the owner once and was very impressed. I like this place a lot. This place could never stay in business if they only dealt with the public, they survive by dealing with builders and contractors. It makes me sad to see people writing snarky reviews about these guys, when I feel like if I was running the business I would just stop punishing myself and stop dealing with the public.

I for one am VERY glad that they do deal with the public, as they have every kind of lumber I have ever had a need for. When you go, you can walk around the lumber facility to find what you need, and if you are into wood, you could spend an afternoon there checking out the awesome different kinds of lumber they have. Give these people a shot and remember that they are no Home Depot, they are a lumber facility that survives by their contractor and builder accounts that does sell to the public. Give them a chance.

This will be my first review for Yelp so bear with me. I have been a carpenter for over 30 years and I have purchased wood products all over this beautiful city we live in. I have been a custom cabinet builder and Master Carpenter for the last ten I would say. So I know my wood! Fine Lumber is the best lumber store in Austin for five reasons: Quality of wood Massive selection of specialty woods Quality of service. Pete in particular is ALWAYS on hand with a tip and a smile. Steve the owner is also usually there to give his 50 plus years of experience and get your product to you quickly. They are open on Saturdays (half a day.) They are centrally located. Perfect for loading up and heading out in any direction.

Went in for a simple DIY project. The staff was incredibly helpful and attended to my every need. Amazing selection of quality plywood and lumber at a fair and competitive price. They cut the wood to my exact specifications and helped load it into my SUV. Look no further for your woodworking needs!

Every once in a while, you stumble onto a business where the people who work there are happy to see you and ready to help. This is one of those places. For some reason, big box stores and many lumber yards don't really have many choices for a woodwork project. Fine lumber really has anything your heart could desire and at reasonable prices. Their selection of species and dimensions are amazing. I am happy to have found them.
