United Plumbing & Heating Supply Company, founded by George J. Roska Sr. and two partners, arrived on the Milwaukee scene in 1922-selling exclusively to plumbing and heating contractors. An outgoing and industrious man, George headed the company as president and sales manager. He died suddenly in 1932, leaving the majority stock to his wife and young children.

A representative from one of our gas utility customers called to complain about pipe nipple threads. Our salesman took a set of ring and plug gages with him to the meter shop, where the utility fabricates meter assemblies. When he gaged the pipe nipples, he found them to be perfect. When he asked the shop supervisor what the nipples were threading into, the gentleman replied that the nipples were being threaded into gas regulators. Our salesman found that the threads were out of tolerance on four of the first 10 regulators he checked.

Chip manages United's marketing & sales efforts. He joined the company in 1977, after several years as a public relations and advertising consultant. His career with United has evolved primarily through participation in United's Industrial and Technical Divisions, where he works closely with some of United's larger industrial, utility and mechanical contractor customers.
