From our early start on the Mississippi River to our current locations across the Twin Cities Area, the hallmark of the Scherer Bros. history is our dedication to quality and service. Even during the struggle of the Great Depression, through World War II, and despite massive changes in the industry, the Scherer family never lost their innovative spirit-a spirit that keeps Scherer Bros. continually growing year after year. At the turn of the 20th century, vast pine forests stretched across central and northern Minnesota.
Since our humble beginning in 1930, Scherer Bros. Lumber Co. has grown to offer a great deal more to customers than our founders ever dreamed. We're proud we have become the leading source of building products, services, and industry knowledge for builders in the Twin Cities Area. Scherer Bros. On smaller accounts, lumber pricing is not competitive with big box home improvement retailers. The sales model is sketchy, too. We got an initial quote for framing lumber in late April 2021, when lumber pricing was near the top. We didn't order until mid-July, when pricing was significantly lower. Despite a verbal request, sales kept the April pricing on the order. Otherwise, sales staff is a mixed bag.
Helpful for building and talking through complex orders but difficult to reach and error-prone. One easily avoidable error on a window order set our project back by about 10 days -- and would have caused a much longer delay had we not caught it early. Bottom line: If you're running a project yourself or working with a contractor that gives you the option, go to Menards or Home Depot.

I needed a window lock for a Marvin window - they sell Marvin windows. The people at the counter are clueless / idiots. Told me to go somewhere else (Alto). So I went to Alto - they told me that they can't get Marvin parts - it was just a way to get rid of me, nicely. Later, on the Internet, I found a Marvin parts list, with the mechanical drawings, and part numbers.
