Whether it is an order for one door or an order for a complete house we strive to give all orders the same attention. Since the doors opened on Tim's Wood Shop more than twenty years ago, attention to detail and quality has been the rule of the day. Tim's Wood Shop began in 1985 as a furniture shop.
Soon, owner Tim Crabtree saw the demand for high-quality, custom-crafted solid doors and wood trims, and so he began to grow his business into what it is today-a quality wood craft shop employing six of the area's most skilled woodcraftsmen who, combined with Tim's experience, bring more than 70 years of woodworking experience to the table.

The fourth year in business I hired an additional employee and again purchased additional machinery. I purchased a four head molder and began making flooring as well. The sixth year I had a total of six employees beside myself. I had also purchased a copy lathe to make stair parts and hired an employee primarily for that position.
All stile material is hand selected for straightness and stability. No glue joints are used to obtain these desired widths, except in situations when required widths are not available. All panel material is selected for width so as not to have glue in order to obtain the desired width. All panels are 1 3/8 thick unless specified by the customer.
Unsealed doors must not be subject to abnormal heat, dryness or humidity, or sudden atmosphere changes. Deliver to building site after plaster or cement is dry. If doors are stored at job site for more than one week, the entire door including all edges and cutouts for hardware must be sealed. Usually wood stains are applied before sealer coats to ensure proper penetration of stain. Most solvent based stains have some sealing qualities; however, this type of stain should not be relied upon for achieving adequate sealing.

I am an amateur woodworker. After building oak kitchen cabinets I decided to upgrade the interior doors in my home. I wanted solid oak wood doors (standard and bifold) with raised panels. I literally spent weeks searching the web and exploring offerings at the big home improvement stores. Nothing met my needs, particularly with respect to the raised panels.
Most were so thin that they looked more like flat panels. I finally discovered Tim's Woodshop. Solid, well constructed doors with big, substantial raised panels. I ordered a number of doors, some in custom sizes. The doors arrived by truck and were extremely well packaged in a wooden crate. The cost, including freight to Maryland, was very reasonable and the quality and workmanship of the doors, as well as the supplied hardware was first rate. Finishing the doors was time consuming, but it allowed me to match the finish of my cabinets and floors and the end result was beautiful. I corresponded with Tim throughout the process and he was great to deal with as well. Definitely recommend!

In a search for true solid wood interior doors (no veneers, core composites, MDF) I came across Tim's Woodshop. While I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I could not find any local place that could compare to the quality and price of Tim's shop even with the freight costs added in. The doors come unfinished but for a DIY finishing job it's time consuming but manageable. Fast forward a couple of months, we have beautiful shaker style cherry doors. Two thumbs up!
