I own a home in Macomb County Michigan which is very well knows for crazy and unexpected weather changes at any given time. Since my home in located in Saint Clair Shores right along Lake Saint Clair bordering the Grease Pointes, we get a lot of water during the wet seasons. Unfortunately, when this happens a couple times a year or when the snow melts or after a heavy rainfall, most of my Metro Detroit neighbors can often experience flooding in their basements.
I also had this problem, where Everytime a heavy rainfall took place, I would walk into my basement and find a puddle or dampness in my basement. At first it was just an annoyance to have water in my basement after it was wet outside however, over time it became a health concern as well. With the basement getting wet more and more frequently, the feeling of moisture and dampness became more and more evident over time.
The humidity level in my home I creased to the point where it would sometimes feel damp and musty in my home even when it wasn't raining outside. When my son began to sneeze and become sick more often a friend told me that they had experienced a similar situation with their family inside their home due to a basement moisture problem. I decided to look into possible health problems that could develop primarily in small children when a home has a high moisture content or mold coming from a wet basement.
I began researching basement waterproofing companies and possible solutions to solve my wet basement problem. I used Google and looked at hundreds of different YouTube videos and product reviews and found that the Gratedrain system made the most sense since it was the only fully closed system that was guaranteed by a nationally backed company for as long as I own my home.
The Gratedrain basement systems were a little more expensive than some of the other basement waterproofing solutions from other local base.ent waterproofing companies but I found a much better value for the cost spent on the basement system. The basement inspector came out to my home and within a half hour had identified the cause of my leaky basement and were Able to offer me a few different possible solutions. The one that made the most sense was to buy the full perimeter GrateDrain basement waterproofing system with the full wall product to help seal off the wall moisture and dampness coming it from the cinder block walls.
The system cost me a little under ten thousand but the immediate differences that we have noticed would be well worth double the money that I spent on the waterproofing system. In addition to the obvious health benefits, we were also able to now finish our basement which added another 1400 feet of living space to our waterfront home.
