Although The Mantel Shoppe didn't officially have a name until 1990, it was created by Ronald Leopard in 1988 in Springville, Alabama. The first few fireplace mantels were built in a spare room in his home for friends. It then grew into his garage, where it remained for a couple of years. Due to popular demand, The Mantel Shoppe was forced to expand into a full wood shop rather quickly. We were crowded in that shop but it didn't keep us from turning out an average of 400 fireplace mantels per month.

My husband and I were extremely pleased with the quality, service and communication with Nick and his team at The Mantel Shoppe. Pictures and texts were sent during each stage of the build. They even precut a hole, at my request, for electrical to be installed. The Mantel Shoppe is the only place to shop for your wood mantel.

I ordered two custom mantels FOUR weeks ago. Initially, there was no response to my phone calls or emails. My credit card was debited for the full amount immediately, that in and of itself is not proper business practice. Pictures were promised last week, never came. I was told the mantels were going to be shipped this week. No pictures. I sent another email and finally received one from a "friend" that doesn't work for the company, but was keeping up on emails.
The email sent said mantels "were shipped" but damaged beyond repair. Now these mantels when shipped are in crates. Then I was told new mantels were going to be made, now mind you I NEVER received confirmation of shipment. This mystery person (owner of the company) said that a friend died. Interesting, after I cancel. I get an email showing one built mantel, not finished, and another mantel in pieces.
Now remember, he had just told me the mantels were destroyed in shipping. It is very unprofessional to set improper expectations, but it is a serious character flaw to stoop so low to fabricate deaths to account for the lack of customer service. Condolences on your loss or Shame on you.which ever applies.

This is the best made Mantel I have EVER bought. We are planning on putting our house on the market, but my biggest heavy heart is parting with my amazing mantel. These people do not only an amazing job, but the ship it SO carefully. I now have to make the choice to take the one with me when we move OR buy another amazing mantel from these people. They even customize your mantel just the way you want it.

I ordered a custom mantel in 2014 for my home in Bronxville NY. They were a pleasure to work with and the mantel was quite reasonably priced for the quality. They assisted me in taking proper measurements. They shipped the mantel promptly and it arrived in perfect condition. Installation was a breeze for my contractor with the instructions they provided. I highly recommend them.

My mantel is in transit right now, but overall this has been the most personal, quickest, and at the same time most professional interaction I've had with any company in a long time. I could not be more happy. Extremely prompt with communication as well as the creation and shipment of my custom mantel. Before charging me anything they built the mantel and sent pictures for me to confirm everything looked as expected. They even e-mailed links to detailed videos describing the proper unpacking and installation of their hand made wood mantels. Amazing prices too.
